I think Jim and his crew have done a decent job in the last two years but his first two
- VANTEL
I don't.
He has bumbled from the beginning. His pro scouting is embarrassing. Can't wait for a new GM. |

You know Vancouver fans.....not happy unless they are complaining about something.
Thank (frank)in god I havent read the term "asset management" in a while. I wanted to jump through my screen and throat punch some of you cum guzzlers for a while.
I'm sure some a still whining over Frank Corrado..... - chompsey
you clearly haven't been here enough then. People were grieving the thought of waiving players like Gaunce/Archibald/Granlund instead of gauging the trade market for them |

@sportsnetmurph on the Canucks roster.
- Saturday you will see a better lineup. Cuts will come after the game tonight I am guessing, we probably won't see Olli Juolevi again until later in the year and there are still decisions to be made up front. The back end looks pretty set - LeftCoaster
Greener sounded optimistic about getting Juolevi into one more last night post game, but that could have just been some positive spin. |

I have noticed that Jim does not do the public interviews now. Weisbrod Brackett and Johnson are handling that duty. That can't be a good thing when the owner doesn't want you to go near a mic.
Don't get me wrong I couldn't care less if they kept Jim or let him go tomorrow. I do think his job does depend on this year. If everything goes wrong I see him fired. If it makes progress they keep using him and hiding him behind the curtain. - VANTEL
Our roster is considered bottom 5 but every sports journalist in North America. What would everything wrong look like? |

Well, then they are (frank)in douche canoes. Every team is going through the same roster crunches right now with the same calibre poopty players.
And if they can't make the worst team in the NHL, then what the hell makes them think anybody else would want them?
All 3 of those players are wastes of air and not a single team would waste a contract on them /fin |

lol those were exactly my thoughts. No team is going to want a player who is being waived by a bottom 10 team. Granlund may have value, based on history and a cap friendly contract, but teams are submitting 3 or 4 players each day on waivers, and I would say 99% of them are going to go un-claimed. |

Unfortunately I think Bennings leash extends beyond this year, no matter how poorly they do. If Benning is doing what FA is telling him to, which has been reported X amount of times, and all of these cryptic-optimistic tweets by FA about the young kids coming up, I think Benning may be able to play out his entire contract. Boeser softened the pain of failing last year, Pettersson will do the same this year, and Hughes will do the same next year. Management will again preach patience, and fans will be left with a very slow, but slightly improving product year by year - Codes1087
I mean, this is the nature of a rebuild. It was never going to be quick. I agree it’s very unlikely he gets sacked. |

I don't think its him hating players, rather teams are cutting down and perfecting their roster, and adding depth 4th line waiver players to an opening night roster almost never happens before the season. I think the likelihood of a player getting claimed on waivers multiplies significantly the day after the season starts, than their chance of getting claimed before opening night. |

- I think Brendan Gaunce thinks he should be here full time. Unfortunately, I think the Canucks brass needs more out of him to keep him in the mix. |

Just my opinion, but, Juolevi will be an ok dman, unfortunately he'll prove that they should've picked another player.
Much like Virtanen, for a dman Juolevi won't be a top pairing guy but he's got some good offensive skills. They need to put him in offensive situations and let him do his thing. He'll never be ble to defend really well, he'll get better at it, it's just not in his DNA. |

His explicative filled posts sure give the impression of hate, for players and fans. Every year, several players change teams because they are claimed off waivers. In this thread alone there are 100's of cries from knowledgeable fans wanting the Canucks to claim this guy or that.
Gaunce and Granlund are both NHL players. The reason they are fighting for a job is because Beagle, Schaller, Rousel, Sutter, Eriksson, Gagner, and each other. Neither is fighting for the one top six spot that is open. But if you think that teams like the Penguins and Lightning don't need solid, reliable bottom six players on sub $1m contracts you are kidding yourself. Having $10m players means needing $1m fourth liners. |

There really isn't room at the bottom of the roster for him. Maybe he sticks while Rousel is out, but who knows. |

I think they will send him down, like all the other guys not needing waivers, and he will get his chance when Tanev and Gudbranson go down with injury. |

Show me an example this preseason - I'll give you 1, the ONLY waiver claim this preseason - Danick Martel - you think Gaunce or Archibald are better? The guy was an AHL Allstar last year - hes in the mould of Boucher and aint nobody wanted Boucher.
Further to that, nobody is touching Granlund with that contract - seriously..... |

Chompsey uses explicatives regardless of whether or not he loves or hates a post lol. I don't disagree that Gaunce/Granlund have a spot if players like Beagle/Schaller/Gagner aren't signed to ridiculous and useless contracts, but since they are, it puts Gaunce and company in the positions they are in. Having said that, it's not as though they are useless at the NHL level, I just seem to think their likelihood of being claimed intensifies mid season when they can fill a need (injuries/suspensions/etc). I can see a need for a player like Archibald, when a team loses its toughness down the stretch of the season, but I don't see him being claimed, and not being sent down or waived again before opening night when teams are fine tuning. |

The team is chalked full of Benning's collection of other teams scraps, bottom six UFA's and draft picks.
We are where we are because they, Aquilini/Linden/Benning, didn't have enough foresight in 2014 to start building the team through the draft by acquiring skill. Now there's very limited skill that's NHL ready but a plethora of poop players.
2014, 2015 & 2016 drafts have produced one highly skilled NHL player, Boeser, despite having a 6th and 5th overall pick. Given the opportunity to look back, they missed a lot of good available kids those three years.
Thankfully they got Boeser though. |

I don't think Archie would get claimed, his minor leagu salary is $250k, so unless you believe him to be an upgrade to your NHL team... I think both Granlund and Gaunce would be an upgrade for several teams. Loosing either would not mean anything for the Canucks. They signed guys in FA to long contracts, essentially making these guys redundant. |

Jakob Markstrom, Derrick Pouliot and Travis Green all represented at the AHL all star game, what does that have to do with Martel? He has never managed even 1.0 ppg in the AHL, and has 4 games of NHL experience. Tampa clearly thinks they need some depth, and I bet there are other teams that would gladly upgrade their 4th line for free. How about the Caps, they lost their all star 4th line C, maybe they are in the market for a guy like Granlund... |
