I do agree with your summary that they aren't that far apart talent wise...but production wise they are, in part due to Echel's injuries last two years...but Matthews was injured for a decent stretch last season as well if my memory is correct.
Talent around them is also part of the equation...which should be fixed this year for Jack. Although will be interesting to see where Matthews lands given 2C responsibilites and presumptively "lesser" competition.

I'm expecting Jack to increase production significantly this year and close that gap as well.

it's funny that austin has better numbers due to talent around him then jack, and that's the argument

But TSN’s list has him as the 8th best player, while Eichel is 33rd.
