Elie/Malone/Bailey next year won't bother me at all.

Sorry if late:

Why all the defenders?

Dahlin, Risto, Scandella, McCabe, Bogo, Beau, Hunwick, Nelson Guhle, Pilut, Hickey, Tennyson, Fedun, Dougherty, Stephens, Samuelsson, Borgen...quite a few guys that are ready or will be in the next couple seasons.

Thoughts?

- RhinoFan

Well i think we can safely scratch out Bogosian, Beaulieu & Hunwick as part of the future here
Tennyson, Fedun & Stephens are all depth NHL guys at best- probably AHL lifers

So take that list down to:
LH
Dahlin
Scandella
McCabe
Guhle
Pilut
Hickey
Samuelsson

RH
Ristolainen
Nelson
Dougherty
Borgen
Fitzgerald
Laaksonen

Botts has done a great job building defensive depth in our system in a short amount of time

Nope, more than happy to watch him this year and see. I don't think anyone really knows where to project him at this point.

He was on 43 point pace last year, while essentially playing by himself in the bottom 6. I expect big things. The only question in my mind is whether he'll stay healthy

I doubt Scandella is retained once his deal is up in 2 years unless it is short term and team friendly. Even then I think he is eventually leap frogged by Guhle, Pilut, Samuelsson which at least is the hope. I would also have Borgen ahead of Dougherty. The right side is looking kind of bleh. I wouldnt be surprised if the Sabres target Anttoni Honka (RHD) in the first round this year although his stock is rising and might very well be a top 10 pick.

I have no idea, keeping an open mind. I worry that he's one of several that will see fewer opportunities as this team improves. I'd be very impressed if he matched last year's production.

He posted a 50%CF, despite starting only 48% of the time in the ozone

With a higher A/60, A1/60, and A2/60 than Reinhart.

Those are at even strength

He is absolutely a point-creating engine from the bottom-6

He was good last year. Right now, he's dropped down to the 4th line after a weak pre-season. Let's see how it goes.

Do you think he played well? Do you really think he can match his production at 4C and off of either PP? I'm keeping my expectations of him very conservative.

All of the numbers i gave you were at ev/s. He played with worse people last year.

25p in 48gp from the bottom six abyss that was the '17-'18 Sabres is impressive

I get it, but cut his ice time and PP time and the numbers will suffer. Maybe there's injuries and he plays his way up in the lineup again....like I said before, he's very hard to project. Last year's numbers didn't feel sustainable to me.

6 of his 25 points in 48 games played came on the power play. He played 1/3 of the time of Eichel.

PP time is not gonna eat at his points

He generates offense regardless of the situation

We're also in a unique situation where i would say we have a 1st line and then a "bottom 9" that can be used interchangeably, based on the situation. Our "4th line" may see more ice based on how Mitts performs.

One last thing, Erod produces nearly double the assists per 60 on the PP as Eichel, so the better question than "what will Erod do without the powerplay" is "why isn't Erod on the 2nd powerplay"
