Just a word of caution for Leafs fans:

I know that the home opener is an exciting time, and we are loaded with high-scoring forwards. It's easy to get ahead of ourselves, and start thinking about playoffs, seeding, etc.

So I want to gently remind everyone:

We need to take it one shift at a time.

Focus on doing the little things right.

Play our game.

Can't worry about Nylander - it's not about who's not in the dressing room - it's about who's in the dressing room.

Just keep it simple. Get pucks in deep. Win the individual battles. Get pucks to the net.

Andsie gives us the chance to win every night. We owe it to him to come up with a big performance.

What can you say about Matts? He comes to play every night. I'm just hoping to keep up with him.

Marnsie brings it every game. Guy's got so much skill. I just need to focus on playing my game.

Montreal isn't going to just come in here and roll over. They want to start the season right. This is going to be a dog fight. Each team respects the history of this rivalry.

Two points in October are the same as two points in April.

It's important to set the right tone to start the season.

We can't take any stupid, selfish penalties.

Yes, I really like Hyman. He's a gentleman and a hard worker, clever guy and gives it every game. On top of that, he plays a type of game that adds some unique necessary components to this Leafs team.

He is in my most valuable players list for Leafs - basically the core of this team in my view:

- Marner
- Matthews
- Tavares
(in their own category)

then
- Hyman
- Kadri
- Rielly
- Andersen (disclaimer: never was nor am I a fan, but he is still valuable as very decent NHL starting goalie able to play 60+ games)


p.s. On the Con Smythe thing - Justin Williams won it a few years ago, so it's not completelyl impossible for Hyman to win that.
