Did you know that the Chinese use the same word for crisis as they do for opportunity?

Leafs can probably use the cap space to pick up an overpriced goalie for cents on the dollar that we can slot into backup, like neuvirth

So genuinely curious how the leafs can function next season. Anyone know the projected cap hits on Matthews (11M?), Marner (8M?), Nylander (6.5M?)...... If thats the case, thats 25.5M, and a raise of roughly 23.5M from their current cap hits. Forget the fact that Johnsson, Kapenen, Gardiner will all be up for raises as well, how does this team go forward without shipping out a boat load of talent????
- bikeguy99

We probably just fold the team and give the assets to NJ.

Right now the Leafs have about 30 million in cap space available for next year without Horton on LTIR (so add about 5 mil)

Other pending UFAs/RFAs we might wanna sign:
Gardiner
Lindholm
Marincin

Kapanen
Johnsson

someone predicted Hyman will score 30-30
Also..they predicted the leafs will score at least 363 goals..which is almost 100 more than last season, and 50 more than any team has scored in the past 20+ years

Go Leafs!

- senstroll

I didn't even realise but mine equaled 330.

Now I gotta stand by it. The Leafs will officially score 330 this season!

That's the exciting part.

Most here, probably can't be (frank)ed to go over it for the 10,000th time though.

Exciting for sure. Something has to give!!!! When they signed Marleau, I thought that last year would haunt them greatly, then they go and spend 11M on JT. How many times can you ask an accountant to CRUNCH the numbers. Mind is blown. Someone will be happy recipients of this cap conundrum

They have about 30 mil space next year (+ 5.5 for Horton + 2 mil cap going up as it always does), so they'll have at least 37.5 mil to resign Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Gardiner.

Then Johnsson and Kapanen will get small raises.

Loads of money left. Don't be surprised if the Leafs are huge players in the UFA market next season.

Dallas is for sure happy. They took on all $1.3M of Carrick's salary.

Gardiner will have to go.
Also, hopefully the cap will go up another 4million.
The fact is it will be difficult to keep all 4 studs, specially if marner and matthews earn more money. Matthews could be 12 million when all is said and done

I'm bracing myself for a contract that gives him $1 milly per year more than Tavares.

Scary thought, but that's probably a good deal for the Leafs.

Did the Vegas expansion bump the cap up? I can't remember. We could see Seattle in 2020 which would help if it happens again.

#Habs #GoHabsGo Imagine the hate that Bergevin would be getting right now if Drouin was unsigned going into the season and they had just lost both Niemi and Lindgren to waivers and had to start the season with McNiven as Price's backup. But Dubas is a genius.
