The Capitals raised their Stanley Cup banner Wednesday night and then went on to embarrass the Bruins 7-0.

Marchand jumped the guy and then also punched him while he was down. If you are proud of that then you are a joke. Let's call a spade a spade here, the Bruins lost because of the ridiculous pre-game celebration. They were in the dressing room while the Caps did laps around the ice for over 45 minutes and never recovered. Don't revel in suckering a guy!

Racist.

If this was anyone else besides Marchand, none of you would care.

First off, it's a cowardly move by any player to sucker someone like that, Marchy or not...

Secondly, I grew up playing hockey. If someone celebrated like that, especially to our bench, our goal was to hit them harder the next time they come around the boards and maybe put in an inkling of an offensive effort...

That message has long been lost on Boston, but they should be embarrassed by how they played. "Marchy showed them we're a proud team." Really? Cause all I saw was a lazy team sucker punch the idiot who had too much fun.

I'm lost on when it became okay to sucker someone for celebrating (d*ck move or not). Maybe play with some heart, play harder, hit them harder etc. Cheap crap like that makes Marchy look even more like the Rat he is, instead of the guy who put up 37 goals last year.

I'm just saying, like it or not, Wilson is going to be looking for Marchand if he ever plays the Bruins this year. More than likely, his dumbass will get suspended for the season anyway though.
- Blackstrom2

I’m thinking Wilson will have to go through a couple guys first. Likely #33. Good luck with that one!

I find it funny that many of the people parading Marchand's actions here want Wilson dead. Like a suckerpunch isn't going to give a guy a concussion or the potentional for long-term head injury. It's a little ironic.

I actually don't have too much of a problem with Marchand, but I think if you choose to fight someone like that, you better have your head on a swivel in the next game.

That would actually be a horrible idea. Chara is reallllly bad now, and leaving him on the ice helps whoever they're playing tremendously.

I’m pretty sure Eller had his gloves off, and I’m also pretty sure Eller through a couple punches. He’s a big boy, he knew he was in a fight. I don’t really see the sucker angle? Yes Marchand did get an instigator....

You don't see by how engaging first, getting your gloves off first, puts you in a much better position after your opponent finally takes his gloves off?

Again, I don't really care about this poop, but it was definitely forced by Marchand.

Oleksiak challenged Wilson a few times after Wilson cheap shotted ZAR in the playoffs. Each time Wilson said no thanks. Guys a dog! Hides behind the instigator rule. Same as when Reaves challenged him earlier in the season - Again a big negative to fighting a guy Wilson knows will go hard at him.

Loves hitting blokes from blind spots for maximum damage & best chance to get him off guard.

He won't fight Marchand, but he'll try & take out 1 of your young guys. :

Looks to me, there's a real poopty attitude in that Caps team, winning the Cup has probably made it worse.

Agreed on all points.

Brutal game, just bloody well brutal. Every team gets blown out at least once a year, but Christ... the first game, Jesus.

You missed a 3rd positive though.
Marchand pounding the piss out of Eller.
You simply do NOT ever taunt a team when you are blowing them out, let alone go to their bench and do it.
Now everyone is going to flip our cuz it was Marchand that did it and he "jumped" him etc. Yes he went after him , yes he punched, and yes they did square up eventually and both had gloves dropped and YES that's when Eller got (frank)ed up, not before, AFTER his gloves were off.

Would you guys prefer it was Kevan Miller that went after him? I think not.

Justifiable ass whooping.

Flame on.

Chars had a bad game last night, so did the whole team. But you are off on your comment. He is a shadow of his former self but had himself a pretty good season last year. He is still quite valuable 5on5 and on PK. He was only +22 last year.

"Marchand pounding the piss out of Eller." Marchand is the biggest wussy out there...He'll only fight someone who can't fight. He's a disgrace in so many ways

Eller learned how to not fight in Montreal

Marchand has 5 total fights in the NHL so i dont exactly see what everyone is whining about. Boohoo, Eller doesnt fight. People complain that hockey is losing the fight yet you cry when it happens. Dont over celebrate a 7-0 goal in front of the bench. He jumped him yeah but the punches happened well after he was ready.

He over celebrated and we sent our smallest player at him.....

- Mahewman

He's got more than five, especially if you include his fights from the AHL/Q.

Size doesn't mean anything when it's a scrap between someone who actually knows how to fight and someone like Eller, who clearly has no clue what he's doing.

And if you don't want to see someone celebrate a 7-0 goal (which I agree is a Richard move), be better and don't give up 7. There was a similar situation in a game I played in way back when with one of my teammates jumping the kid like Marchy did, and after the game our coach was pissed because we showed zero response to giving up all the goals, but responded to the kid celebrating.

I also grew up playing competitive hockey and if you were up 7-0 and ran your mouth or did something stupid like taunt the bench in a game that was out of reach you would have to look over your shoulder. It’s that simple you don’t do it, and Eller learnt his lesson. He won’t be doing that again.
Marchand got the instigator and was ejected. Case closed, we move on. Bruins got crushed, time to move on too.

He provides decent offense still, but defensively, as you said yourself, he is a shadow of his former self. Maybe he just seems to always have rough games against the Caps.

To the point, not sure why Chara or Miller would need to answer the bell for something Marchand did. Eller paid his price for his wave. The Caps will want to exact their pound of flesh for the perceived sucker punch at most, and early engagement in a fight at least.

I don't think they play again until January or something.

It’s only one game and I’m sure the team will be fine. But after watching Tukka the last few years, and especially in the playoffs last year and now last night the guy will likely never carry this team to the Cup. I hope I’m wrong but he just craps his pants too much against elite teams. We’ve all seen it too many times.

SO do you think your Flyers would have sat there and let Eller get away with taunting your bench? (frank)in doubt it bud.
- Thornton22

I would have hoped the Flyer (or any team in particular) player would at least give Eller a chance to drop his gloves and defend himself before they started punching his face.

You might be correct but isn't that Marchand's fault for his constant inability to just play his game, which is a really good game at that...instead he always has to pull this kind of crap, licking players, sucker punching, goes on and on.

Hell, maybe that is his game, get inside players head with his antics and if so great, but with that type of play comes this type of complaining and probably league discipline.

Bingo. All these people female doging about him wouldn't if he was wearing their laundry. It's that simple. People just want a target, love to whine and then love to justify it in order to feel better about themselves for being vindictive crybabies. Teenage girl syndrome.

Well, I don't know why I'm better or not, as I have never played an NHL game and am not employed by any NHL team.

And I'm glad that you're now drawing comparisons between Marchand and the goon-laden Flyers teams of the 70s and 80s. A very high, respectable bar to reach for. But please, show me where I said the Flyers have a clean reputation.

And for the record, I want Radko Gudas thrown out of the league for what he did, never liked Carcillo, and never wanted Ulf Samuelsson on the Flyers during his stay, so no, it's not a Flyers bias.

Edit: I'm a huge Eric Lindros fan, and he was one of the dirtiest players in the league during his time, so I'm a hypocrite on that one.
