Yeah, fire the guy who didn't capitulate in his first contract negotiation. We want a yes man who is afraid to make the hard decisions managing this team. - TheMussel
not about the non capulating.
it's about the cockiness - "we'll get it done, can fit all under the cap"

I answered.....in the other blog...but if he sits this year...they'd tack another year on before he hits UFA....right? - Garnie
As long as I've done the math correctly, yes, sitting out this year pushes out UFA status by a year.
Play this year: hit UFA status after 2021-22, as he has 7 years of NHL experience.
Sit out this year: hit UFA status after 2022-23, as he will have 7 years NHL experience and be 27 (either one of which makes him UFA).
As long as I've done the math correctly!!!!! |

Bringing home the home town kid might very well be the absolute last ditch attempt to keep the team there, just saying they may completely over pay out of pure desperation and find a way.
I think it’s a long shot but If we were ever to see another huge offer sheet signed ( last one was maybe WEBER with Philly ). This would be it. - Ross77
I think a more likely candidate would be Laine signing an offer sheet with his boyhood favourite Washington Capitals. |

It's pretty obvious Laine wants out.
Did you see his comments about the Canucks?
Obvious smokescreen. Laine isn't fooling anyone.
And I heard he hates mosquitoes. And cold weather. |

Matthews wants to win. He can't do that in Arizona.
Do you honestly think if Toronto was a mess like the Coyotees, Tavares even meets with the Leafs?
Of course not. |

Honest question,
Can you see Arizona offering and Mathews signing an offer sheet next year for 14 per?
Would you match or take the 5 first rounders? I assume you match.
He'd have to make it to June unsigned, right? I imagine signing him before that is Dubas' #1 priority this season. |

What has Dubas done to deserve to be fired? Sign the biggest UFA any Gm has in 12 years and won the Calder cup for the Marlies. - RogerRoeper
He's completely screwed up the salary cap structure for the next ten years - making it inevitable that the Leafs can't win the cup.
Sheesh, it's like you haven't read the Canucks' and Flyers' threads.
Please go talk to Left Coaster and Glak18 and edumacate yourself. |

The WHCs are gonna be fun to watch as long as all the great Finns play on bad teams.
It's really a shame that this happens to be around the time that olympic participation ceases. |

Matthews is loyal, unlike that stupid rat-bastard Tavares who turned his back on his franchise and screwed the fans because he's a gutless puke with no loyalty who I hope dies in a fire because he's a gutless puke who should have demanded that the Islanders trade him so that they could get 4 1st round picks but he didn't because he's a gutless puke and a snake and I hate him. |

I've been watching some liiga games. Kakko might be better than Laine. It's kind of scary. Not as good of a shot, but a better skater and less tunnel visioned. This draft is shaping up to be the best domestic Finn draft in years. |

Hey fellas, I’m not trolling or trying to stir poop up, it was an honest question. I don’t see Mathew wanting to leave or signing an offer sheet anywhere else. I do think he would find Arizona and the extra money tempting, that’s all and I can see them finding a way to make the money work. I mean next year arizona’s 2nd highest paid forward will make 3.5 per, that’s a joke. |

1st - have to be really bad to not achieve that
2nd - relatively easy to win a Calder with Marlies with the financial resources Leafs' org has. (it's a great thing, but not that big of an achievement).
try do it with the Tucson Roadrunners |
