until something is done, its just noise..and anything that gets out, is put out for a reason by one side.

I just dont get why some people take things personally and feel the need to call players losers and whatever else...

Interesting take.

So would you take 50K working for a publication, even though your worth is much more so that, they can bring in a couple of Pulitzer prize winners at a higher 150k so your publication gets more awards? Or do you go looking for $$ elsewhere to try and get paid your value?

The NHL limits this, but the player does have the right to hold out.

From a fan perspective I get the frustration, but management should realize once they paid JT, other guys are gonna want to get paid. Why sign Patrick Marleau for that kind of money when you know you got young guys to pay in a couple of years.
Even if they didn't plan on signing JT, the recent RFA payout's should have been a warning on where these things were going.

Most of the recent cup winners paid their guys after they won the cup, when you start shelling out a bunch of money on RFA's before you win, really makes it hard to build depth. So I get what Toronto is trying to do, but to me they created part of their own issues when they signed Marleau to that deal.

Senators drop giant heavy beach balls on fans during pre-game, spilling beer and hurting children.

Bringing home the home town kid might very well be the absolute last ditch attempt to keep the team there, just saying they may completely over pay out of pure desperation and find a way.
I think it’s a long shot but If we were ever to see another huge offer sheet signed ( last one was maybe WEBER with Philly ). This would be it.

- Ross77

From the Elliotte Freidman piece from a few days ago-

Before making that decision, Tavares chased the answers to some important questions. He needed to know that if he was signing for seven years, Matthews would be there with him. He had the GM’s assurances, but he wanted the player’s, too. So Tavares came right out and asked, one cornerstone to another. “He said 100 per cent without a doubt,” Tavares says. “I know how committed he is and how bad he wants to be here.”

I doubt Matthews would sign an offer sheet.

Gritty and a 1st for Nylander. One third of Gritty's salary is retained. The 1st is a top-10 pick.

Nylander seems like a California / Florida type of guy.

So who is he getting traded for? 4 teams would provide a decent leverage for Leafs in negotiations..

Analogies to other industries don't really work, because other industries don't operate under a salary cap.

MLSEL legal just vetoed the trade - too much liability when Gritty inevitably mauls sick children during a team visit to a hospital.

They operate under budgets, where costs cannot be exceeded, I know I am doing next years budget this weekend.

ESPN chose to get rid of some talent so they could pay others more.

Sign Willie to a bridge 2yr $5m

Play him at C in Kadri's spot...move Kadri to wing with Matthews.

Let's see what Willie can do playing with Connor Brown and Josh Leivo.

If he still puts up big points...give him big money.

The end.

61 points in 81 and 82 games is "big points"?
