NOT READY

Not a great numbers day from him, but good things, not holding on to the ball, better, still not great, but better, short pass accuracy, especially to McCoy in the flat on the last drive. But these drops are infuriating, some on Allen, some on the receivers. Can't have that week in week out.

I get why they are being conservative, but it’s annoying watching CJ Beathard throw a creative shovel pass for a TD while we play offense from 1980

Little touchy there

I'm still baffled as to why they got away from rolling him out, sure it's probably not going to work all game, but if you do it you can catch them unaware on a deep throw, or at least a down field one. It's not just the Bills either, it's like these coordinators can't think on their feet once they burn through the script, so they revert to boring ass, predictable plays.

Agreed.

His receivers cannot get open so he tries to place it where the defender has no chance of interception, but the WR likewise has a low % catch he has to make. Still showing poise on Allen's part. His throw-away decisions, not taking the sack, standing in the pocket, all looking good.

He does however seem to miss a lot of his check-down throws, often to wide-open receivers/backs. I like that he's looking down field because that's not something we're used to, but I want to see a few things:

1.) Check-down! He's going through his reads but forgetting the check-down pass.

2.) He isn't directing receivers - All the good QB's will point a WR to the spot they want them to go and throw it there, he needs to start directing traffic.

3.) Make better read-option decisions. Just know when to run, when to hand it off and when to look for the hot route.

He's taking a lot in. I like his hard-count, clock awareness, presence on the field. He just needs to take it 1 week at a time and it looks like they're focusing on a simple, yet different, offensive game-plan so far each week. Hopefully after the bye-week, we'll see it all come together.

He's a work in progress. Brady And big Ben relied on rushing in their first years too, though I'm not comparing Allen bro those 2. 4th quarter comeback win was huge in his development I think. Got to keep it in perspective that he's a 21 year old kid with blitz pickup checks and multiple progression reads to work on. Plus, his Wrs are attrotious. His INT should have been a catch by Holmes. Josh was 10-19, Rosen 10-25, mcnown 10-22, so other "accurate" QBs are also work in progresses. Mayfield is for real

Their centres will still take them far, might add a d-man at the deadline.

Their cap structure is gonna be weird for years. I honestly think they need to sell high on either Matthews or Marner to bring in d help and long-term cap stability.

And for the record, I thought the idea of the Sabres signing JT was dumb, but long term, it's gonna be worse for the Leafs if they can't win a cup in the next 3 years

Hence hardball with nylander. They need him and marner to come in at just the right amount to leave enough room. Even then, they'll need to convince someone to take a contract. Perhaps Marleau's final year or Zaitsev deal with some retention.

Having said that. You could make a legitimate case that they have 3 number 1 centres. That's outrageous. A deadline day deal could put them over the top.

Edit: they've got the prospects/picks to land a guy. They dont need a Karlsson or anything, just someone who can actually play defence.

I think they could roll the dice for 3 years, and either it comes up Yahtzee, or they hit a hot goalie in the first round and keep losing. Their team structure is unorthodox and unreliable

As much as I like Kadri, and as much as I hate myself for liking him, he's not a 1C. Borderline at best, like 2014 Sabres? Definitely. 2007? No.

30 goals and shuts down opposing lines. That's a fringe 1C today.

not really. Their biggest problem on the blue line is a lot like ours. Most of whatever talent is actually there are playing above their capabilities. Bring the right guy in it takes minutes and pressure of the rest.
