A little concerning that both Provy and Nolan have struggled so far
- bulet13

this was supposed to be nolan's year to show he's got something

Most coaches would not take a player they use on PK out of the lineup in favor of a guy they use pretty much only at even strength. Weal may enter the lineup on LW on Tuesday if JVR misses time.
- bmeltzer

Very true, understand why he wants Lehtera in, but would most coaches use Jori Lehtera in their PK rotation?

if you had to have lehtera on your roster what else would you use him for?

So basically:

Voro - Patrick - TK

Provorov - Sanheim

- Glak18

Until JVR is back, hmm, may want to replace Misha with Lindblom for the net front role.

My overall point really is he should not be on the roster I the first place.

Maybe Hakstol should season in the minors too? Lol
Good to see Hart did well in his debut. Getting close!
Oh and is JVR faking an injury already to avoid being traded again? 🤣

If they can't get a viable 2nd pairing going, they will have no choice but to do this.
- BiggE

Sanheim and Gudas really looked like a viable second pairing in game 1

———-Simmonds————-
—————JvR——————-
Giroux————Voracek——-
——-Gostisbehere—————

Konecny—Couturier———
Patrick————Provorov—
————-Sanheim————

Konecny I would have play downlow. At the goal line and behind the net plays. Couturier net front presence.

Any sane coach would give Weal a shot over Lehtera long before they forced Folin into the lineup. You cannot win playoff rounds with a coach who thinks he’s clever but is actually clueless.

I’m going to try to avoid the Hak rants, but in the big picture the club is going to have to see some actual progress beyond getting embarrassed in the first round.

Hextall may be loyal to him but the pressure will start to come if the club continues to get its teeth kicked in come playoff time.

I know no one wants to hear it but hak will basically get one more free pass this year. He’s signed on for next year right? I bet he goes into his last year without a new deal.

Then you are setting yourself up for disappointment with ridiculous expectations.

1) We still dont have a legit #1 Goalie
2) 99% chance we are playing either Pittsburgh or Washington
3) Flyers were in no position to win last playoffs with the state of their team:

Simmonds was ground beef
Provorov had a separated shoulder
Couturier was playing on 1 leg
We had 5 players maybe more playing their first ever playoff series.

Chances are we are looking at another 1st round exit.

Shouldn’t JVR be in there?

Yup. He's here this season and I think depending on what happens in the playoffs they extend him or let him go into that last year with basically a "prove yourself" mindset.

He's had a free pass to this point.

I by no means expect them to move past the 1st round. That would be a bonus, it doesn't change the fact however that in this market you are going to have to eventually see a real step forward.

Again, I dont think we are there yet - but the pressure is going to come at some point.

Yup, 19-20 is when I expect this team to win a round or 2. Not saying it can’t happen this season, injuries and hot goalies do happen, but realistically next season is when the window starts to open.

As much as it depends on goaltending, I think its also largely going to depend on Patrick. A changing of the guard so to speak.

He's going to have to show he's a real threat to push a team to victory over the coming years.

Yes and that pressure is still years away. Hextall since taking the job has removed several bad contracts, got us draft picks and aquired the pieces we needed for a rebuild while still being competitive. Has he been perfect no, Weise was a mistake.

We have the pieces we need, most of them are on the roster but they need time to develop now.

Konecny - 1st line RW - 1 year experience
Lindblom - 2nd line LW - Less than 1 year experience
Patrick - 2nd line C - 1 year experience
Vorobyov - 3rd line C - No NHL experience
Provorov - Top pair Dman - 2 years experience
Ghost - Top pair - 3 years experience
Hagg - 2nd pair Dman - 1 year experience
Sanheim - 3rd pair Dman - 1 year experience

Of course, I meant if/when he comes back. Ha ha. Looked like it was an injury caused by being hit by the puck, not a tear, so I choose to be optimistic that it’s just a bruise and he’ll be back soon.

For all the heat he gets, I do have to give him some credit. He's truly trying to do more with the puck in terms of jumping in. Hopefully he keeps it up and continues to grow.
