Despite what you (not you you) think of him and his arrogance, he inherited a really good team and subsequently made some great depth additions, they were 60 minutes from a Stanley Cup.

Much like Benning though, he was seemingly only good at a fraction/portion of the GM position.

No argument there.

The one thing Gilman said last year that I liked was that they were aware of their drafting being bad so they went back to the drawing board after 2012 and did their research. They found out that they were overvaluing QMJHL players with their projections system.

Likely explains why they didn't draft a single QMJHL player in 2013 and went heavy in the OHL.

Out of the 10 picks they had in the first 3 rounds under Gillis before 2013, 4 were used on QMJHL players.

Yeah it's too bad they couldn't have drafted better, it was truly awful, as everyone knows that made Linden and Benning's jobs that much harder.

Gillis inherited 27 year old Henrik & Daniel, 23 year old Kesler, 28 year old Luongo, 21 year old Edler, 26 year old Bieksa, 26 year old Burrows, 30 year old Ohlund and 21 year old Hansen...the core of the team.

But they lacked good depth around them, that's where he really helped the team. He came in, in 2008/09, and let Naslund and Morrison walk, added Demitra, Sundin, Wellwood, Bernier, Hordichuk and Ryan Johnson.

That didn't work so he added Samuelsson the next year in 2009/10 when Sundin said that's enough.

Again that didn't work, so in 2010/11 he added Hamhuis, Ehrhoff, Malhotra, Torres, Higgins, Lapierre, Ballard and they finally got by the Blackhawk powerhouse......the rest, as they say, is history.

If this was the exact same team minus EP, I think the vibe would be a lot different. Especially with Boeser not looking right.
- Nucker101

You're not wrong. He's appointment viewing. Much like my childhood hero PB.

Still is my favourite player of all time, and its not even close.

The next general manager will be in much the same boat as Mike Gillis, in my humble opinion, he'll inherit the good pieces that Benning's poor finishes have produced, Pettersson/Boeser/Hughes/2019 1st rnd pick/Juolevi/Virtanen/Demko.

His management team will then be tasked with surrounding this group with the right mix of players to produce a contender.

**ya I know Boeser wasn't from a bad finish, just a good/lucky pick**

I was just looking at the height of the Sedins career, between 2009 and 2012, they were actually pretty consistently good at scoring in the playoffs, which I never really gave them credit for.

Henrik - 52 games 51 points
Daniel - 49 games 46 points

It's been a slow day at work, sorry

Just looking at the height of Linden and Bure's career in Vancouver, which came a bit younger than the twins. The 1994 Cup run era.

Linden between the ages of 20 & 25, 1991 to 1996, he played in 72 playoff games and had 73 points. Bure between the ages of 21 & 24, 1992 to 1995, he played in 60 playoff games and had 66 points.

Since 2011 nothing done by a Canuck GM had been done very well until a couple years ago when Benning and Co finally realized this isn't a team that can't compete anymore. A long time of ineptitude by the GM's/Owner has resulted in poor results on ice.

Things are now looking up though. JB needs to stay the course he set out on the first year he came. Draft and develop.

When the team starts to be competitive, then he can make some savvy trades.

I feel thanks to EP and Boeser and if the rest of the prospects make strides this year, the leash will have loosened a bit more. An entire new coaching staff maybe though.

Was watching the news last night, had a segment on CBD oil that people are now selling. Curing basically everything that smoking weeds does. Anxiety, nausea and so on. The center for poison control in Minnesota took some of the oils and tested them. Some the bottles don't even contain CBD oil and half of them contained half the amount that was listed on the bottles. 20 billion dollar industry by 2022 they said though but buyers beware.

I still don't care if anyone does any sort of drugs. (even though Marwood created his own idea about what I think about people that do drugs).

I'm not as hard as TG as you would think. I just think he needs to evolve a little more. By coaching standards, he is still a very young inexperienced coach. With a lot of younger players coming in. I don't know if it's a recipe for success.

I think 6-5 will be the score tonight. Not picking a winner tonight.
