I feel thanks to EP and Boeser and if the rest of the prospects make strides this year, the leash will have loosened a bit more. An entire new coaching staff maybe though.

They're years away from being good and this will be his downfall with an impatient owner.

I think you under estimate the impact of one or two very talented players.

Do you think it will be when the media believe the team will be good again, or when the owner does? What I mean is, if the consensus preseason reporting says Canucks will make the playoffs (in say 2 years) and then they don't do you think Benning will get canned? Or, do you think the owner will believe his own hype, and get an itchy trigger finger around the deadline this year, or just before Christmas next year if the team falters?

Personally, I think Benning is in a sweet pocket of safety. The acknowledgement this year of the rebuild by ownership, the "slow steady pace" that they expect means Benning has all the time in the world. My concern, if you can call it that, is Benning gets taken to task for wasting money on veteran players playing in the minors or requiring a buy out.

One or two very talented player can't make you a winner, yes you can be competitive, providing you have an excellent supporting cast. I think they're still so deficient in a lot of areas despite three talented young guys.

I don't think he'll make it beyond his current two year contract. Not sure if he'll be fired or just not renewed?

Dan Murphy: TG still tight lipped about lineup tonight, but I believe Hutton draws in at the expense of MDZ sitting.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jimbo and Weisbrod are out after the season. A 2 yr extension is basically a show-me bridge contract for a GM.

He's spent a lot on UFAs the last few years with nearly all of them underperforming. He's got a bunch of kids on the farm, some who don't have lineup spots, that need to show well. And he's got a handful of bubble players that he's banked on who need to show something and take strides. I don't think a wonder season from EP saves him this time.

If this team is sub-70 points I wouldn't be surprised at all if someone else is brought in. FA hasn't filled the president role on the club and he could be waiting to see how this season goes on whether he sticks with the guys in charge or flips it over to someone who can win his trades and sign a decent UFA deal.

I think he's here for the long haul. He's selling exactly the kind of snake oil the owner wants for his greasy hair. I mean like Ken Holland long haul.

But he will ruin any hope of getting a pick for MDZ if he doesn't play...

Can you not imagine what it would be like having Quinn Hughes play 20 minutes a night on this team instead of MDZ, Hutton, or Pouliot?

I can, it's (frank)en glorious.

poop players get assets every TDL. (frank)ing AHLers got 5th and 6th rounders last year. Healthy scratches were pulling 3rds and 4ths. That's up to your GM to sell the player to other GMs and that ship sailed with Benning ages ago.

Not meaning to put a thorn in your pudding, but weren't you crying about the Hughes pick after the draft?

For the time he is on the ice I imagine it tilts the Canucks way, but you can't expect a rookie to come in and play 30min a night. And without anything around him as far as quality D, it's going to be a while before his impact is truly felt.

I'm not as hard as TG as you would think. I just think he needs to evolve a little more. By coaching standards, he is still a very young inexperienced coach. With a lot of younger players coming in. I don't know if it's a recipe for success.

I think it’s hard to judge his coaching ability right now — this roster is so bad/young that it wouldn’t get that much better or worse with any coach at this level. I think he’s doing a fine job given that: he’s playing a style of hockey both management and the fans want, he’s developing the kids on the team well (protected minutes, emphasis on D, etc), he is not so stubborn as to his lines/vets while not so rewarding to the kids to make them earn it.

I think once the team starts to get better in a couple years, then it will really show if he’s good enough to get them over some humps.

He wasn't my choice at 7 with a bunch of RHD still there and a lot of good LHD projected for this season and very few RHD. Van has a lot of needs though. I never said Quinn wasn't a very good player.

I did say 20 minutes a night not 30 minutes a night. As of right now Van does have two quality defensemen in Edler and Tanev. Gudbranson has shown in the past that playing with a better D, he doesn't look so bad. Currently his partners are all 6/7 D. Not top 4 like Hughes projects to be.

Speaking of physical play, Ashton Sautner seems like a mild-mannered dude, but you wouldn’t know that when he’s on the ice and being belligerent to his opponents. He is becoming quite adept at crosschecking the bejesus out of guys without getting dinged for penalties. Sautner has been bringing the nasty this year.

Sorry, wasn't meaning to misrepresent min played, just thinking of the Karlsson/Keith's of the world etc.

I don't think any of the current blue liners will be here once the team turns the corner.

No one works for the Aquilini family "for the long haul" without results, Benning imo won't ever be a results guy because he's not good enough in his position.

Was watching the news last night, had a segment on CBD oil that people are now selling. Curing basically everything that smoking weeds does. Anxiety, nausea and so on. The center for poison control in Minnesota took some of the oils and tested them. Some the bottles don't even contain CBD oil and half of them contained half the amount that was listed on the bottles. 20 billion dollar industry by 2022 they said though but buyers beware.

I still don't care if anyone does any sort of drugs. (even though Marwood created his own idea about what I think about people that do drugs).

- manvanfan

Thank's dad.

If prohibition ended then all these drugs would actually be tested and would contain what they claimed to contain. You make a great argument to legalize. Thanks.

He'd better be doing better then just ok considering he has the greatest coaching staff ever assembled to support his vision.
