I will remember this for the next lockout

- homiedclown

Hopefully there won’t be one
Normally... I’d say there is gonna be

But the next lockout would be in the ‘20-21 season,
which is when Seattle is supposed to start
So I’m hoping they’ll just get things settled

But who knows?
It is the NHL after all

Good point. What are the real hard issues, in your estimation?

The players are all making mad bank again, so that shouldn’t be much of an issue. What would they want this go around?

I can see the owners wanting to rewrite the drafted College free agent thing ( Justin Schultz), abolish the NMC and somehow find a way to rid themselves of those lingering long term contracts every team seems to Havel.

I'd rather have Jaden Schwartz. Maybe slip the typo into the trade agreement and hope the Blues don't notice?

An excerpt from the article:

"I don't care how much money you make or what you do, you sign a contract, you feel like you've earned that and you expect that your employer is going to hold up his end of the deal," Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said.

How can Toews say this with a straight face? $10.5m a year for 20g 30a, and hope he gets that much for 6 more years? Maybe the owners want the players to hold up on their side too. I definitely think the NHL should have an option to restructure contracts. Maybe through an arbitrator. Hodgson and Leino come to mind. I don't want GMs to have a Get out of Jail Free card for doing stupid things like signing Lucic to his atrocious contract, but there should be something.

The problem with this is it would create a fiasco. When the player out plays his contract he’s going to want to restructure too and get more money. It could get to the point where every player goes to arbitration every year unless they repeat exact past performance. Rabbit hole

Then they'd want a hell of a lot more than an even split of HRR.

Agree. While this system is far from ideal, it works(most of the time).

The only proper way would be 1 year contracts, but a team could never be run like that, even the medium term cap would impossible to calculate for one, which leads to other things like being able to afford players.

I don’t think there’s a perfect way to do it with a hard salary cap. I brought it up the other day that if a team can put someone on ltir and get cap relief why can’t there be some clause like “barely plays ir” for guys like bogo where if they miss a certain percent of games over a certain time frame the team can cut ties, have very minor cap penalties (if any) and move on. (I don’t care if the player still gets paid or not)

I’m not with ya
I think having guaranteed contracts is a good thing for the NHL

Fully guarantee contracts in terms of cash, but allow owners to buyout the contracts without repercussions. 1 buyout every other year, or every third year per team. Poor teams can kick rocks

I'm not sure how good he will end up being, but the one thing that Botterill seems to be doing is loading this team with depth, something Tim Murray ignored.

I have good seats for tonight. And reservations at Chefs. Won't be getting much work done today.
