thought it was too campy

See, the actual problem with Deadpool is that is WASN'T camp. It was kitsch, and precisely because it TRIED to be campy.
Camp is: Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, Evil Dead TV Series, Showa-Era Godzilla, 1960's Batman TV Series, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Serial Mom, Death Becomes Her, Cry Baby....
Deadpool was juvenile, unsophisticated toilet humor that only 16 year olds or those with a 16 year old's brain, found to be funny.
Deadpool was a lot of things, but it was not camp. Otherwise it would have been enjoyable because that's pretty much a requirement for anything campy. |

There is a minute but very important difference between camp and kitsch and also between parody and satire and I'm just kind of irritated that most people don't understand the differences.
Austin Powers: Satire and camp. It criticizes it's source material by deconstructing the protagonist, from his looks to his intellect, while also allowing that character to grow by the end of the film, characterization that the sequels unfortunately negated. But at the same time, it doesn't take itself too seriously and it's corny and fun without going out of it's way to be corny and fun.
Archer: Parody and I would even argue that Archer is camp. It's a parody because Archer basically IS James Bond, and they don't deconstruct or criticize his character enough, but basically make him an extreme, over-the-top version of the character, and that isn't a bad thing. But it's also camp, the animation style, the voice acting, the situational comedy... It actually does camp really well, IMO.
Evil Dead (2013 remake): Complete kitsch. It emulates the source material, makes it hyper-violent, hyper-realistic and completely fails to have any style or substance. I had a friend of mine argue with myself and his roommate once, about how this film was "modern camp" (there's no such thing as "modern" camp). It's not. It's just done in bad taste. It takes itself way too seriously. It's more about cheap thrills than style and it failed miserably... The best part was the end credits scene, because it led to:
Evil Dead (Films/TV Series): If ever there was a master of camp, it's Sam Raimi. His Spider-Man trilogy was perfect campy fun, Drag Me To Hell shows he's still got it, and he directed the first episode of the Evil Dead TV series, which is wickedly fun. It's not perfect, but it's camp and it's also a little bit of a satire AND a parody all in one, with it's main character, Ash, being a perfect anti-hero in an age of a sickening amount of righteous hero-types and superhero films, and Evil Dead overall is not just a parody of the horror genre, it's a parody OF ITSELF. Ash is NOT glorified, at any point, in any of the movies or the TV series. He's a middle-aged creep who works in a department store and makes mistake after mistake, never really learning from any of them. He is both a parody and a satire of the working-class American male... Satire, you say? Yes, because on top of NOT glorifying his personality or behavior, he still has a moral compass, he still grows as a character in his own redundant way, and he TRIES to do the right thing, even if he fails miserably at it. He owns up to his mistakes at the end of the day, something not a lot of people do... And he doesn't have any super-human qualities, he's just a guy with a chainsaw arm and a boomstick, fighting demons. Groovy.

Bills are on pace for ONLY 1,949yds
Before anyone freaks out...
no, I’m not blaming this all on Allen
But the inability to move the ball through the air is gonna continue to kill us
Idk about this “process” anymore?
I thought we’d take a step back this year
But this seems like much worse than any of us could’ve predicted

Corey Pronman of The Athletic released his early season projections for 2019 Draft elligible prospects.
Of the top 15; 4-LW's, 7- C's, 3-RW's, 1-D.
Maybe the Sabres will continue to have The Force be with them.
Too soon?

Mitts + Berglund should replace ROR. I’m sure the brass envisioned Mitts grabbing the 2C by the horns and running with it with berglund assuming the defensive responsibilities. It’s only been 3 games I still have hopes for Mittelstadt to find his game here. - Pegullaville
He's fine, he's just being brought along slowly - as evidenced by 365's stat that Mittelstadt didn't have an o-zone start last game. Theyre obviously trying to get him to commit to learning the defensive side of the game. Right now the 4th line is clicking, so they're getting some extra looks. It's a good position to be in right now.
He's currently playing 10 mins a game, so offensive stats are probably going to suffer. If and when injuries happen, he'll get a better offensive chance. Until then he's going to be in a position to refine his defensive game with sheltered minutes, especially at home.
And before everyone says he should be playing 20 mins in Roch, those extra minutes would be offensive minutes - which he doesn't need. He knows how to wheel and deal. He needs to work on his defensive game against pros here |

Hey Gents,
Been out of the country and only able to watch highlights of the first 3 Sabres games...
What can you guys tell me honestly about how the team has looked on the ice in things that don't show up on the box score? I know people were criticizing them for not showing up for the Boston game but beating the reigning WC Champs handedily was a nice feather in the cap.
Casey? Tage? Skinner? Dahlin? Risto?
How the boys look?
Thanks |

Didn't get to watch much of the Rangers game. But here's what I can add to the conversation.
Hutton has pretty much been unreal.
Eichel seemed to be trying to do to much at first but I think laying it all on the line at the end of the Rangers game by blocking that shot and getting the EN goal helped settle him down for some reason. I thought he looked very good against Vegas.
Thompson hasn't overly impressed me so far, but it's still early. Mittelstadt isn't getting a ton of time and an honestly, I haven't noticed him much, but that's not necessarily terrible as at least he's not out there making mistake after mistake either.
The Pommer/ERod/Girgensons line has been good. Finally got rewarded with a goal on Monday, but they've had plenty of scoring chances and good zone time in all 3 games.
Okposo looks better IMO, so hopefully he has a nice solid year.
Dahlin hasn't made any kind of spectacular plays, but he hasn't looked out of place either. He's 3 games into a very young career, so I'm of the opinion of "so far, so good."

Call me crazy (again), but could the Sabres be holding Casey back a bit until he shows the defensive mindset?
Maybe earn the offensive zone starts?
Also , all 3 games are at home, Jack played 25+ minutes, maybe housley likes eichel on the last change, in the offensive zone so he can produce offense. |

I went to all 3 games, here's my opinion:
Erod - played great and was probably the most consistent forward.
Eichel- dazzled, but turns the puck over constantly
Thompson- needs to get a longer Jersey it rides up on him, and he really isnt doing much. Flashed some suprising speed though
Casey- good hands, not factoring in the scoring
Dahlin- better on d then I expected. Tough, clears the net. Progressively jumped up more each game.
Pommer- good in limited minutes
Berglund- kinda slow
Sam- couple nice passes, missed open net from eichel. Might have been in awe of the backhand pass thru the crease
McCabe- solid, tough games
Bowl u- terrible the first game. Not as bad last 2.
Hutton- lights out, best goaltending performance in years. Games 2 and 3. Looked good in 1 too. |

I wonder if Housley will shuffle the lines before the road games when the opposing team gets the last change. Most teams will try to match their top line against Mittelstadt. Housley may be trying to prepare him for that by playing him in a defensive role now. Hopefully Sobotka is back by then to help Mittelstadt out on the left side. I won't be surprised or worried if he struggles in the first few road games, while going up against top competition
