Apologies in advance for using fancy stats, but since I am not using them to scapegoat anyone in specific maybe they won't be cast off so quickly.
Obviously some sample size issues, but to say that doesn't match the eye test would be incorrect. They're giving up way too many good chances. - YuenglingJagr
I would like to see a graph to confirm that this is, in fact, the truth. |

I disagree. That was a salary cap move and a mistake. Your analysis is incomplete. MacDonald was a better player then, during and still now than Manning ever was or will be - MJL

So how about instead of "expected" goals against, which discounts small factors like goaltending, we look at the actual goals against.
I don't think there would be much difference, and it's clear that their defense has been somewhere between below average and atrocious, but this whole "expected" thing is the one #fancy that i despise the most. |

He's only disagreeing because it's clear to him that the coach and GM are always making all of the correct choices.

I don't think it discounts goaltending. It puts it in perspective. It doesn't say there weren't saves they could've made, but the quality of the shots the goalies are facing are in general higher than usual. The Flyers aren't giving up tons of point shots and low quality shots, they are giving up good scoring chances because of terrible NZ and DZ play from the 5 guys in front of the goalies |

You can have that opinion all you want but it's clear that the decision was mistake and that MacDonald is a better player than Manning. |

It would have to improve to get to the terrible level.

This may be controversial to say, but I'm going to say it anyway. Sorry if it offends some....
The Stanley Cup will be awarded this year at the end of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Not sure how many will agree. But it needed to be said. |

They didn't even want McDonald as the #8, and the salary cap had nothing to do with it. If the salary cap was the reason, they would have promoted MacDonald when Streit got hurt in November or when Vinny and LSchenn were traded in January. - Feanor
Street was not hurt in training camp. MacDonald came back up later in the season and helped the team down the stretch..It was clear that he should've never been sent down and he was better than players the Flyers kept instead such as Manning.
