If his contract was terminated or he was bought out, different story. He's literally being paid and still property of the organization.

The guy played one year here and all of of a sudden he is superstar status that needs to discuss things with the president only

Gagner said he reached out to both Benning and Green and didn't hear back from either. You want to talk about being a beta... that just reeks of someone being scared of conflict.

EDIT: Sorry, it sounds like he talked to Travis, but never heard back from Benning...point still stands

- nucks_94

scared of conflict? What is the conflict? The dude got waived, no one took a claim, so the entire league is pretty much in on the same page with the Canucks, or else he wouldn't be in the AHL.

They put him on the Marlies so he could be close to home for Christ sake

Why would they want to have a sit down and listen to some guy cry for hours about why he thinks he should still be with the team.

Remember the movie Money Ball where Billy Bean tells his assistant to tell this guy he has been traded ? What is the difference?

I am honestly baffled that Gagner thinks he is owed an explanation from either the coach or the GM, AFTER he finds out, that he was waived and not a single team in the league put in a claim.. I am not sure he needs an explanation, him playing in the AHL after that speaks for itself.

lol gagner gets grossly overpaid, gets demoted, and then is given special treatment to play close to home, near his family, and people are upset that he didn't get a phone call? jesus

makes me wonder if there were any other teams that wanted him before he signed with the Canucks? I'd be surprised if there was, but just maybe there was.

Gagner seems like such a niche player. has skill, not very fast or defensively responsible. doesn't belong in our top 6 but still might have something to offer on the pp as he demonstrated in Columbus... but if he can't hold down a roster spot on the Canucks, he might be done.

I work in a union, maybe that's why I might seem cold about Gagner being demoted due to PISS POOR PERFORMANCE lol.

Gagner's "special treatment" to play in Toronto has just as much to do with a roster jam in Utica as it does with his wishes to play closer to home. Some of our top young guys can't even get into games in Utica so far.

And we'll agree to disagree regarding Jim's handling of the situation. As someone who manages a team of people, all I can say is that I would have handled a demotion differently and I would have spoken to the person directly, not delegated it.

I think Gagner was signed for close to league minimum in CBJ, was used as a depth/4th line player who helped on the PP. Gagner at 850k vs Gagner at 3 million, in a cap run world, are two very different players/options.

Like everything the media and Lefty like to blow things up to catastrophic proportions . The number 16 forward on the team gets sent down after one year of service and Canucks are idiots.

to a degree. but the roster Jam in Utica (I believe) effects veterans more-so than it does regular roster players. The team can only have 4 or 5 "veteran" players. It would have meant that certain veteran players (or guys who have played over X amount of games in the NHL/AHL) would have had to sit.

So a crowded roster would mean they chose Gaunce and Boucher and all the other scrubs over him .

I wonder if Gaunce had a sit down with Jim and Boucher too? I hope MacEwens feelings were not hurt that he wasn't given a phone call by Benning.

Absolutely. I'm certainly not pro-Gagner. He deserved to be demoted. I'm just a proponent of open and direct communication. If I was going to demote Gagner, it certainly would not have caught him off guard.

I seriously doubt that anyone of the players sent down heard it from Jim. I bet they all heard it from Travis . Why does Gagner get special treatment?

He was not fired he was demoted . Canucks are still paying him a mighty fine salary and he is still under Canucks employment.

I have been told before by my A foreman that there was a work shortage and I would be off for a while . It was not done by the general manager.

He was fired, you can spin it however you want, he deserved it, that's not what my comment was about, it's about professionalism within the organization and how it's perceived by future UFA's.

I wonder of if Benning is going to have to start asking anyone who is being waived, where they would like to play, Utica or as close as possible to your mommy?

If it was me I would have sent Gagner to Kalamazoo.

When you got cut on any of your many times down to the minors were you called into the president or GMs office or did you hear it from the coach.

He was not fired he was demoted . He is still employed by the Canucks group.
