Sam Gagner on SN 650 on how he was told he was cut. "I was informed by my agent. We had an off day, I got a call from my agent, It took me off guard. I did call Travis after but have not got a call from Jim no " #Canucks
Benning is such a greasy wiener - LeftCoaster
lol, to be fair I think the call from Green would be enough.
I guess the agent called Benning about the Marlies thing.
I’m just glad they waived him |

it would have been. such a small thing. why does the organization always manage to stub its toe? |

Benning does deserve a lot of blame but I don't know who could have done it better. This organization has been a mess for a long time. Someone else could have made it better or they could have made it worse.
I certainly like a few players that have come on board but it could still be a long process or maybe not? So many things need to come in play.
Are we a lotto team this year ? Do we get multiple picks? Lots of questions still for me.

I wouldn't get fired cause I am not a beta coasting beetch like Gagner.
And even if we try and translate this into the real world
Gagner (employee), Green (supervisor), Benning (manager), FA (owner). Perhaps if Gagner was traded or fired or had his contract terminated, he maybe deserved a call, but a demotion within the organization by the coach?
This isn't a small business, and he wasn't fired, he was waived to a different department within the organization. This is just people making a big deal out of nothing, and Gagner being a whiner. - Codes1087
Except gagner was hired by Benning, makes way more then green.
Let's say gagner was an employee, green was the head secretary who passes the messages around ands Benning is the HR DIRECTOR.
The head secretary tells the employee that the hr director has re located him to Anchorage Alaska ands gives him the ticket. Wouldn't that make the hr guy gutless?
Benning has smaller balls then gagner. At least Linden did his own firing when he was the axe man. |

Jim Benning says it was a Brendan Leipsic shot in #Canucks practice on Sept 23rd that led to Thatcher Demko concussion. JB says he talked to Demko today. Has been on bike last few days and is hoping to be on ice in next few days
Good to hear |

Gagner also had the chance to play better but didn't . In fairness the team announced many many times , if you get outplayed we will waive you to every player. |

the fact that you would say that it was being compared to a "real-world job situation," says it all.
this is professional sports. this is so outside of normal.
if you want to compare it to the real world, let me ask you this, do you think that one of the top 10ish paid workers in a billion dollar organization would have been told by someone pretty high up? - RealityChecker
I never compared it to a real world working situation. I am simply telling you why Makita did. |

They put him on the Marlies so he could be close to home for Christ sake
Why would they want to have a sit down and listen to some guy cry for hours about why he thinks he should still be with the team.
Remember the movie Money Ball where Billy Bean tells his assistant to tell this guy he has been traded ? What is the difference? - VANTEL
Because wiesborough didn't tell gagner he'd been fired, green did. |

i know. i meant "you" in the universal sense.
my point is that these are the top paid employees of billion dollar organizations. they are the product and it is reflected in their pay/responsibility.
as such, i think they should not be treated the same as say factory workers.
bottom line is that the team doesn't need sam gagner. in the future, i would hope that the team avoids some of these stupid PR fails. |

They should of started a full rebuild after they lost to Calgary his first year, to me that's really the start of the dysfunction. Trading for Gudbranson & Sutter was a huge mistake. |

I think you need to look at the definition of FIRED
I don't think Weisbrod told Boucher he was fired or your boy Gaunce he was fired ,Or Zack MacEwen he was fired or Demko he was fired , or Dahlen he was fired or Gaudette he was fired .
Just to name a few of the fired personnel. |

whatever...Benning is a gutless POS for not telling him personally imo. It's not about Gagner, he was poop, it's about Benning and what it says about him.
If you were told by the clerk at work you're fired you'd wanna have a chat with your boss, quit lying lol. - LeftCoaster
I was promoted in May and my first job was to fire a guy. I don't like doing it or seeing anyone lose there job but I still do it myself and look the guy in the eye and tell him why. |

You mean like trading Sedins Edler Tanev back then?
NTC/ NMC and loyalty were a big reason the team did not start a rebuild back in 2013.
It is a beaten dead horse. So many things have handcuffed the Canucks. |
