A couple of things coming down the pipe here regarding our roster and an upcoming six-game homestand.

1) Before the Edmonton game on Tuesday the Jets will need to demote one or two players with the return of Petan

2) Maurice and Chevy really would like to carry a 22-man roster , especially at home to save cap money for a potential acquisition at the deadline

3) Maurice likes the idea of having 8 defensemen around because it makes practice flow better with four lines and 4 sets of defensemen. That however would mean recalling Poolman. Very Unlikely.

Kulikov is definitely staying which leaves Petan, Lemieux , and Dano vulnerable. Lemieux is back to the Moose for sure because he clears waivers. Do the Jets go to 22 men though for the homestand. It makes total sense while the Jets are in town. That would mean one of Petan or Dano needs to clear waivers. The consensus is Petan would not clear waivers. Dano might. The other option is sending Vesalainen down before he hits 10 games. However, he has played quite well so its becoming a less likely option with every game.

Bottom line is barring a Sunday injury to a regular something is going to have to give . Trade Petan or try and waive Dano may be the most viable options if the 22 man roster is to happen.

Actually Maurice Doesn't like having 8 D because they end up standing around too much in practice. Jets will want to keep Vesalainen through the Finland trip so they could send down Vesalainen and Lemeiux and roll with 22 skaters during the homestand and then call vesalainen back up for when they head to Finland at the end of the homestand. Easy. No need to trade anyone. No need to burn a year of Vesalainen when he's not a difference maker.

This is true about the Finland trip. They would definitely want to include him for that without any doubt. I've never looked but I wonder if there might be some special accommodations made for teams doing these overseas trips where they might get to carry an extra man from the usual 23 man roster due to the distance and in case of a sudden rash of injuries. If it were just the usual 1D, 2 F and two D went down in a game I could see it being a problem.

I just don't see Vesalainen going past 10 games played with Jets. He has been OK and improving but not enough to stick yet.

He’s on the line of “ready”, but isn’t getting any of the opportunities he needs to prove it. So, send him down

Heres an article for all you guys who have been relentlessly bashing Tanev for the last 2 years while I and a couple of others continually praised his merits. I should also add that he has definitely bulked up quite a bit this summer. I saw some post-game out of uniform video of him next to some other Jets and was shocked. I had said it was a mistake to only sign him for one year and I think Chevy is going to find that at least a two and possibly 3 year contract at maybe 250K more per annum was a better choice.

Dana waived, be safe tonight Rexy, don’t do anything stupid.
I guess not a single team was willing to give us even a 5th-7th rounder for him.

I’m absolutely gonna do something stupid when I immediately buy a Dano jersey from whatever team.

Considering the Jets had absolutely no reason whatsoever to waive him, seeing as they’re absolutely sending Vesalainen down soon, and Lemieux offers nothing as a waiver-exempt player, I’m almost 100% sure the Jets didn’t make a single phone call about Dano. Ladd for Stanley has reached its final form.

Couple things,
-Vesalainen will not go down, back to Finland yes, but Moose, no.
-neither you or I will ever know for sure if the jets tried and were offered nothing or didn’t try at all
-just like you or I don’t know what Enstrom was offered by other NHL teams, I’d say he was only offered league minimum cause no team valued him, you’ll spin it he was offered more and chose to go home.
-sometimes teams actually try and do a nice thing for a player they do not need and had next to no trade value to see if he can land on his feet somewhere else. I suspect this is what just happened to Dano and that’s ok.

Dano got waived ?
Ladd has certainly evolved into a very very expensive 30 point winger. Fortunate that we got anything for him.

He fell off after that hernia surgery. He was damaged goods by the time we traded him, although he has managed the Enstrom conversion from top offensive player to defensive workhorse. The Islanders defensive strategy for its forward group began and ended with “make Ladd do it”, and he was genuinely in the Selke range

I'm sure Chevy would have made a few phone calls and tried get at least something/anything for Dano. Probably been trying for a whole month. Came up empty. At this stage I would imagine the Jets see no future in Dano are just setting him free, as Ross has stated, and seeing if there is any team interested in him. A nice gesture at this point. I thought maybe Anaheim or Ottawa (best bet) might need some help from injuries. Otherwise, he clears waivers.

Bottom line though is he just was not big enough, strong enough, or talented enough for regular NHL action. I hope he gets claimed so we dont have to listen to his name anymore on here if he ever gets a goal on the Moose

Chariot and Kulikov .....might get scary. Good thing its a home game and Maurice can protect them somewhat against Carolina's top lines.

Make no mistake, Carolina is a good team. They played last night in Minny though vs our several days of rest so I'd predict a Jets victory. Jets by 2.

Curses to Mattheson for body-slamming my boy Pettersson. Hope he gets suspended a game or two if not to just send a message that our young star players cant be manhandled like that.

When Dano gets claimed, and Vesalainen inevitably gets sent down to get playing time, this handing Petan a full time gig, I can finally return to my hibernation.

-Dano and Petan will finally get the chances they deserve
-Postma is top 10 in scoring among KHL dmen
-Enstrom is rolling a point per game in Sweden with 27 minutes per game
-Vesalainen doesn’t get Pomo’d

Well since you’ve been very adamant that the AHL is second best league in the world I’m glad Postma and Enstrom are doing so well in tier 4 or 5 or whatever level at highlander their leagues are lol.

That would put Postma in the 3rd highest league, but probably on his highest paying deal by far.

Enstrom is trying to promote his team to the top level again

Correct Ross. HockeyAllsvenskan league in Sweden would not rank in the top 10-15 in the world. Most 16-18 year old leagues in North American like OHL and QMJHL rank ahead of it. Heck its not even the top league in Sweden. Might crack top 20 in Europe.

I'd rank KHL as probably 2nd. SEL ( Swiss Elite) is quite good as well and so is Sm - Liiga in Finland. AHL might rank 4th or 5th. There is a HUGE talent gap between any of these leagues and NHL. Any NHL team would trounce any of them in a matchup. It's childish to even think there is a comparison.

Wasn't a big fan of those new 3rd jerseys when they were released but they actually look good. The crest is just a little plain but the colour looks great.

It’ll work. It’s fun for the whole family. Every line has a playmaker, a sniper, and a play driver.

Jets by two.

Some takeaways from tonight Game.

Impressed with Carolina after coming off a game yesterday. Tremendous speed and persistence. Good sticks. They are a great example of the new NHL. Possibly this years Vegas GK.

Morrow was dreadful especially in the third. Trouba terrible in the first but recovered after that. Kulikov and Chariot actually played well, especially Kulikov. Get rid of Morrow and bring Kulikov . Myers has played really well the last three games so maybe a Kulikov -Myers pairing will work fine. We also do miss Buff.

Little line looked so much better tonight. Vesalainen played well while he was on the ice. Perreault not noticeable at all. Made a major gaffe on the blind backpass that led to the Aho breakaway. Overall though the Jets lack that pack of wolves type attack that never lets up. The team looks more timid this season. Where are the hits ? BTW....another game where better Corsi team once again lost.

Finally Broissot. Fantastic tonight. Definitely the first star. Bodes well that we have someone capable to take some heat off Helle this season.

JetsNation - are you suggesting Myers played well tonight ?!?

I musta been watching another game ... if I see Myers and Morrow together again I will surely puke ... Myers has me worried

Hats off to Brossoit ... fine outing

Am I missing something - - - why does it seem our guys take so long to get into the game ?
