There's not a goalie in the league that's going to be successful the way that the Flames play defence and turn the puck over. Smith is not the issue. The Flames were awful last night. - Hunkulese
Smith + for Bobrosky. Columbus is already rumoured to not sign him and wants to get something before he walks.
Just re read that, my anglish is not vary good rite now. - K-man25
That would definitely be a big fish for BT to land. I wasn't sure what Columbus's plans are there. I don't think they're a playoff team without the elite level of goaltending they've been getting so I'm not sure why they'd entertain cutting ties with him.
I could be wrong, but I really think the heat is on for BT this year. If it looks like we are going to have a repeat of last year I think he WILL make a big mid-season splash.

Forgot where I saw that Columbus wasn't sure weather they'd be able to sign him or Panarin and we're looking to trade them while they can still get a decent return for them.

People need to chill.
Saying that Smith should not play the puck is mind boggling. He is one of the best at it and it helps out more than it hurts. He is going to have the odd bad play, something that we gotta live with. Maybe tell him not to play the puck if the D can get there easily.
Rittich just played a decent period of Hockey. Lets see what else he has.
I would rather see Peluso than Prout. And we just had a guy get his jaw broken for sticking up for a team mate. Don't want it to happen again anytime soon.
Last night we played against a team that wanted it more. If that penalty shot goes in its a different game. Smith was not at his best but we live and die with him this year. - DuranDuran
Smith was a beast at it. But he was also mind boggling bad at it at times too. It's a two headed beast.

I like those lines. I haven't been able to catch a whole game for awhile. How are Valimaki and Rass looking as a pair?
Gio Brodie
Hanifin Rass
Valimaki Hamonic
I'd really like to see this as our top 6 d when Hamonic is back. I would be comfortable rolling those 3 pairings no matter who their opposition is.
Vegas showed the success you can have when you have 4 lines contributing. Imagine if we could get to the point where we could roll all 4 fwd lines and all 3 d pairings AND still expect to generate offence from every possible combination. - Saskabush
Vegas had one line go supernova while other teams slept on the team in general. I think this year we will see them being taken seriously from day 1 and not from game 45.

I think they missed one in that Vancouver playoff series in 2004. I miss those days.
I think Schneider may be a target but not now. We have Smith, we arent trading him mid season so we are going to go on this adventure with Smith & Riitch/Gilles.
Riitch looked dialed in pretty good, like to see him start in Colorado. Depending on how things go, I see Tre going whale hunting come June at the draft & the targets will likely be Bobrovsky or Schneider. Depending how Bob wants (rumour the ask is 9.0 mill per) then Schneider may be the way to go. - Kevin R
Actually rumor is Bob wants Price money.... so 10.5 per on a long term. He is not on the flames card nor will he be. And Schneider will likely be slightly out of their cards too. He will be asking for 8+ if he returns to previous form. Todays day and age you gotta find a kipper who is burried behind a Nabakov, or a Jones behind a quick, or a Talbot behind a Lundqvist, or a raanta behind a Lundqvist. Not all work, not all fail. See Edmonton with Dubnyk via developing and Minnesota finding a solid and Edmonton with Talbot who started out great with them and has collapsed since.

And as a guy who rolled the Bennett bust train on you guys thru the offseason... He has looked good so far this season. A new fire lit under his hoop. Good for him. Hope it returns some results soon and he can shed some of the comparisons to that bust from up north that ran to the KHL this offseason. He is generating chances and gaining some so far. If it holds up I apologize. If not, I still think you have another Yak.
But notice you have someone willing to admit they could be wrong and wasnt just trolling.

-Agreed. Smith caused the one goal, but only on 1 out of the other 4 did he even have a chance. Two cross-seam one-timers, one deflection, the other shot through a screen.
The problems were many, mostly bad penalties, easy zone entries, Gaudreau and Andersson, and Smith Turnovers. In today's NHL against most teams you just can't do that. They'll make you pay. I liked the push-back in the third and liked the games from: Bennett, Ryan, Lindholm, Backlund, Andersson (except his gaffe), even Frolik played pretty well.
Gaudreau was awful except for his diving pass to Mony to cause the penalty shot, he was brutal. He was mostly a liability out there. Brodie and Stone were meh for sure. I love Gio but he looked slow on a couple of plays and took 2 bad penalties as well.

Schneider has 3 more years after this at 6.0 mill per. He's 32, so depending how he does & the way Kinkaid has been playing, Schneider may be available for a reasonable price & we can easily fit that 6.0 mill in. It's a risk given his injury history the last few years but that will also drive down the price. I prefer Riitch takes the next step & plays so well that Smith only gets 40 starts this year. But Im probably just dreaming on that one.
