Didnt see anything like this when Gudbrandson went way out of his way to mow down Dube in the season opener & Vancouver fans were quite giddy on our thread about it.
Now it happens to one of their smaller very talented players. Welcome to our world. This crap happens all the time. Either penalize it properly or get rid of the instigator & let the players police it themselves. - Kevin R
Uhhh, the only thing that pissed me off about what Hamonic did was the fact the Hamonic was the one doing it.
Should have been someone else.
Guddy's play was stupid..... He said so himself.... Just like the rest of the fanbase.
Give it a rest. |

Kevin, you are very very wrong. I dont recall a single canuck poster giving anything but massive praise for Hamonic for standing up for Dube and fighting Gudbranson (despite the outcome). - Codes1087
What a waste the Canucks fourth line is. That interview last week about Aquilini angry about spending millions on Gagner to play in the minors is almost laughable. How many millions are being spent on Gudbranson and Schaller and others for skating in circles and icing the puck. If I were Aquilini, that would piss me off. #SweetCuddlyCanucks |

This article headline should have read in full:
"Attention NHL Players, NHL Organizations, The NHL Players Association, The NHL Officials Association, and The NHL Board of Governors, ... Get It All Together".
Stricter rules are necessary to properly penalize these illegal and dangerous head shots, hits from behind into the boards, knee to knee contacts, etc.; both in game, and thereafter as well. In addition, its necessary to define a range of games that the initiator of the dangerous contact would automatically be suspended for at a minimum, depending on the type and severity of contact nature. That despite whatever amount of games it may force the recipient to possibly miss while out injured. Then add if any, the player's prior related history of any dangerous hits administered, and his prior suspensions into consideration as well, to determine the total amount of games he should be suspended.
You hate to delay the game with further replays. But in the case if a dangerous contact of this nature was either misjudged or completely missed by the refs on ice, a mandatory NHL video review should be held right then with the Toronto headquarters, to initially have the call on ice in penalizing properly both the guilty player and team in that game. |

It's a hard, rough play that should be a penalty but not a suspension.
The league shouldn't have much to say about it....but the Canuck players absolutely should have had a lot of issue with it. |

Honestly I don't see anything dirty about the play at all. Doesn't hit him in the head, yes gives him a bit of a crosscheck to knock him into the boards, but nothing more than a 2 minute penalty in my view. Calling it predatory is a huge stretch, the puck came back down low to Pettersson, what's he supposed to do, just let him get the puck while staring at him? Pettersson needs to learn to toughen up and not be such a p***y. - Budi1782
It was "rough" and should be a penalty.
It wasn't a blindside headshot. Guy gets pushed down. If a Canuck did that, there would be high-fives all around and lots of comments about how the other guy should learn to stay up on his skates.
(Not that the Canucks fan base is worse than any other fans in this regard)

Not at all. I forgot about that stupid play the next day. Flames fans keep bringing it up. And Canucks fans keep saying what Hamonic did was the right thing to do even though it shouldnt have been him.....
Just keep beating the dead horse.
When exactly did Guddy Throw Dube's melon into the ice? I missed that part. |

Pettersson better get used to D-man coming after him because he emasculated them.
He embarrassed Matheson on his goal stick handling through him before roofing a wrister.
Then he broke his ankles just before the hit.
Poopy D-men like matheson are going to take runs at him because be he is an all-world prospect who they have no shot in hell of keeping up with. |

It is true that players seemed to have lost respect for each other on the ice. A player's family spends countless hours and many thousands of dollars on the extremely minute chance that they will be drafted by an NHL team. The team then spends similar efforts in money and time on the remote possibility that that player will become a regular in the NHL. During all of this time the player also expends blood, sweat and tears towards the same goal. And then, in an instant, all of that is lost. Watched an episode of W5 last night where Joe Murphy went from a first overall draft pick to being homeless in Kenora. All because of a hit. There are so many others that could be mentioned. Checking is a part of hockey, which is one thing. But fighting, intentional open ice hits at or even near the head, or hits head first into the boards need to be stopped IMMEDIATELY. The players are not getting the message so suspensions need to be increased to the point where they do get the message. Perhaps the greater of 20 games or when the injured player returns to playing. If the injured player never returns, the same goes for the suspended player as well. |

Dude he didn't exactly Undertaker choke-slam him. It was rough but not pre-meditated. Unfortunate result but in the act, it happens so fast, you can't call this intentional. - BeadyEyedDouche
Ok, well if you can't tell what his "intent" was there, you should probably put down the bong. |

Time to set an example and give Mattheson a long suspension.....you are playing with someone's life and well being....there is no need for this extreme measure same as Wilson...the game should be going beyond this stuff and needs to be address....if they can't handle the skill and have to address skill with this then there is no room in this sport for this nonsense......we just want to see exciting and at least fairly clean hockey |

Yeah, Canucks fans don't seem to be too impressed by the guy. Gardiner will be walking as a UFA after this year.

No mention of Malkin?
Until the refs earn respect, this kind of play will continue. When someone dies on the ice, things will change. |

Yeah, of course.
and after they get their poop together in that regard, they need to referee the playoffs the same as the regular season. |

Yes, everything was a hockey play until he threw him down to the ice. Did you not watch the entire clip? Because last time I checked, slamming players to the ice is not in the list of approved "hockey plays" in the rule book.
I'll go check again though... |

Amazing when the league is full of cowardly vag's that this happens. Nothing that a good punch to the face wouldn't fix. Unfortunately that can't be measured by advanced stats, so now we are stuck with a bunch of rats playing non-physical, boring hockey. |

Hallelujah brother.
Unfortunately Logic is not the NHL's strong suit. 1st time offender means he'll get slapped with a silly 1-2 games and in two days its completely blown over and forgot about..... Thats how they've always done it, and until they actually show me their capable of anything even remotely different, I'm convinced that's simply the way its always going to be.
Par for the fukkin course my man.

The answer isn't more goon behavior. The answer is the league cracking down on this kind of stuff.
Would anyone really give a poop if players like Tom Wilson were booted from the league? |
