Those Kenyan jerseys are pretty sweet. And those players working on their backwards skating (end of video) were pretty good for newbies.

There’s a couple of YouTube videos about corporate logos with hidden stuff in them. Don’t have the link but found the videos interesting. Company’s spend a fortune getting the logos designed for their needs and many have the hidden meanings. Amazon has the “smile” connecting A to Z to emphasize their extensive product line.

CHICAGO -- Nick Schmaltz had to do a double take.

The Chicago Blackhawks center glanced a few times at the two figures positioned near the bench at MB Ice Arena. He thought they were players.

They were mannequins, dressed in full Blackhawks practice uniforms. One had a helmet with No. 53 on it, the other No. 41.

"It's creepy when they're sitting on the wall there," Schmaltz said. "You catch yourself looking because you think it's an actual person. The first time I did, at least, so it's pretty funny."

The Blackhawks have started to use the mannequins at the end of their practices. They used one Friday, and added another, which wore sunglasses, on Monday. No one knows who put the glasses on the second mannequin, and neither mannequin has been named yet.

Asked whose idea this was, coach Joel Quenneville credited assistant Ulf Samuelsson.

So Samuelsson owns these two?

"No, I don't think so," Quenneville said. "These guys are independent."

Odd as they are, the mannequins are useful in helping defensemen get shots through from the point and in screening goaltenders.

"I thought it was good. The guys actually stay in front of the net," goaltender Anton Forsberg said with a laugh. "It's good to have a couple of those out there to stay all the time. You don't want to hit your buddy in front of the net. You feel like they're holding back a little bit

Schmaltz said the mannequins help the forwards too.

"I think it's … they're out there just for seeing passes through," he said. "A 2-on-1 or something and you get a pass through a guy's skate and pick it up, it's kind of tough to do. You don't really get to work on that unless you're in a game. So stuff like that, shooting through it. Defensemen I think it's good for, getting pucks through lanes and through that initial forward up there. It's a little different."

It's also a little unnerving.

"They kind of creep me out," forward Alex DeBrincat said. "I see them in the training room, sometimes I think it's a real person dressed up over there. It's good to work on. It's tough to read [passes] through the skates, and I'm sure it's tough to see around the player. But it takes the injury aspect out of someone just standing there for shots for the goalie. I've never seen anything like it, but I think it's a pretty good idea."

Quenneville didn't address the second mannequin. He had a decent assessment of the first mannequin's second "practice."

"I thought he picked it up a little more today," he said. "He went from just OK to OK."

First Ulf starts training our D to play like pylons....now he is bringing man mannequins in to show them how to do it properly. Soon, our defenders won't even move at all.

IMO, huge risk to waive Forsberg before you see Crawford in a few games. If it's truly post-concussion symptoms he's had, those are nothing if not unpredictable. I'd want to make sure that he's truly ready to go.

Great article today - love that the team is looking at all aspects, including the dynamic off ice. I'm one who, to the annoyance of some on here, interpret the statements and behavior of the players to try and understand what is going on with them mentally and how that might be affecting their game and their relationship to the team. Obviously, an imperfect science, but after a lot of years of doing the same in business and life, cannot help myself. So...

I also have noticed a disconnect between the message that Q seems to be trying to send Saad and how he is hearing it. His repeated PR fluff statement of "just keep trying to improve" as the most accountable reaction seems a bit too little in this situation. We were all over Toews last year when he used similar statements during his struggles.

And in addition to the earlier quote, Toews went on to say: "If there's some parts of his game missing, we all need to know what the situation is." I read that as a reminder to Q that he needs to be more specific as to the changes a player needs to make, especially for the player, but also so they can all learn from it. Sit down with some tape and go over specific plays/errors, maybe?

Not understanding why they were being benched or moved down the lineup seemed to be a common refrain from the guys who have left in past couple years. Maybe this came up in that session with the SEAL and other conversations.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, who of us could know for sure, but I see nothing specific to that quoted statement to make me think he has an attitude problem.

You’re right who really knows, I could be wrong, I was once before (well not really wrong, more of misunderstanding). I think he went through a similar situation with Torts in Columbus on couple of occasions.

In the 2 seasons in CHI before the trade to Columbus, he averaged 21 goals & 50 points. That was while playing with 2 future 1st ballot HOFers, one who is the 35st best goal scorer in the history of the NHL, the other who is one of the premier centers of his time.

On this go around with the Hawks, he’s played with no one near that good, including an older, JT, who had 2 sub-par years.

And don’t forget Stan traded him, partially because of CAP considerations, part because he probably wasn’t worth what he was asking.

In reality, he’s probably a 3rd line wing. At $3-4 million, someone that can contribute. At $6M, not good enough for top 6.

Interestingly, that Brewers logo is on the right front shoulder of the Predators AHL team jerseys, Milwaukee Admirals. Not sure the story but I'm assuming same ownership group.

Glass half full or half empty?

You could look at it also as, he has let in some really stoppable shots to prevent them from winning in regulation.
