GMJR on Sprong: "We want to give him the opportunity to do what he should be able to do," Rutherford said. "Coming out of camp, he didn’t get into the top-nine. That’s probably, for a guy like that, where he needs to be. We’ll see how this goes as time goes along." http://www.post-gazette.c...ment/stories/201810150142

Reading Yohe's recent mailbag I don't think Sprong is long for this team. Seems like Sprong was playing to the best of his ability up until the Gallagher goal and got yanked immediately as soon as he made that one mistake. If one mistake is gonna get you the axe on a night to night basis, the coaching staff already has their mind made up and there's no real room to sink or swim on your own accord. We should really trade Sprong if Sullivan is done with him.

This was my biggest concern before the season started and I voiced as much.

Time to move him while they can get something for him. At this point unless the Pens acquire a forward with proven offensive ability, he’s just not going to get a fair shake from Sullivan.

I’m hoping they can get a decent player in the same situation as Sprong, but a better fit for Sully.

I think you keep him and gamble. Very early in the year. There’s plenty of time for him to make a splash in the top nine. As we’ve unfortunately saw, injuries happen. I’d rather sprong on my team ready to jump up than someone else’s failed prospect

Is it every fan base or just the Pens that think any young player with a shred of skill should be given milk and cookies on the bench, personal hockey IQ lessons from the 1C all while the starting goalie rubs his feet? Once again how many you d skilled players started on the fourth line? It’s no ones fault but Springs if he doesn’t make it.

I'll be really disappointed if they trade him. Kid is only 21 and he's got 3 assists in 4 games with less than 9mins ATOI playing on the 4th line and 2nd PP unit. What more could they want? There's a bunch of players below him on the stat sheet that haven't done sh*t.

No one wants to hear this Grinder, they want to pretend Sprong is an uber talent who if just given a chance with Sid or Geno would score 50 and by making him earn a spot in the top six Pens will ruin him like Derek "literally Paul Coffey" Pouliot whom will torch the Pens for 65 goals tonight!

Dont you dare suggest that Sprong isnt a natural born killer with his sniping ability, the lack of goals doesnt mean anything.

Also Jack Johnson will ruin the league.

Just seems like he can do no right by the coaching staff, only wrong.

Ugly.

Sullivan looks like he's going to explode after another slow start.

That first line should be awesome. I'm not seeing it. Meanwhile the third line is blah.

I’m a smidge concerned by Hornqvist’s inability to stick with Crosby so far this season. We really need to be playing Brassard at 3C.

They're just rrrreally sloppy. They have hard time handling puck, not connecting passes and puck is off ice for them a lot. I think this can be corrected. They'd have alot more zone time, shots and chances if they were connecting with each other. Outta sync so far this season.

It’s October. It takes a while to get into the groove. I’m not overly worried about sloppy hockey at this point in time. If it still looks like this by mid November, then yeah, there might be an issue.

What is up with Sid? He looks like he's still playing pickup with the Kenyans

Yeah they look like a real work in progress which kinda surprises me because there's alot of familiar pieces. I guess the back end is different and that's where everything starts so it's definitely a factor.

What the hell is Jack Johnson doing? He’s in la la land on both goals. I don’t understand the loyalty they are showing to this clown. It’s like Rob Scuderi all over again. I’ll take Derrick Pouliot over JJ any day, he’s not playing like he’s worried he’s getting benched for a month for 1 mistake and he’s a decent middle pairing guy that handles well and makes good break out passes. People ragging on Dumoulin and JO on this thread earlier today don’t know what they are talking about. Each brings something to the team that no other dman does. For such a big guy Dumoulins skating and conditioning is elite and he’s an excellent stay at home dman. JO is big and mean but still has good handles, and he’s absolutely worth his cap hit.
