If that was the deal, I doubt it is now. It isn't so much that Kapanen has proven to be effective SO FAR, it is also that Matthews and Marner are making themselves more valuable, pretty much every game. - Aetherial
It's probably down to 5.5M now |

sure will need a lot of Richards for that to happen... - 21peter

Kap deserves more credit.
Babs needs to give it to him too, he’s more than a Zach Hyman type player...but maybe Babs is just saying that to get him going. |

Dion cares though. - Unholy_Goalie
Phils too worried about this.

No, it was pretty accurate. LA dominated a lot of the offensive zone, they just lack finishing ability. It would be ideal if the Leafs played like LA to take the pressure off their D and goalie and with their deadly shooters, they'd score even more than they already do. - Unholy_Goalie
The only reason LA "dominated" is because the Leafs offense, so far at least, does not play a possession game in the offensive zone.
The Leafs were also playing with the lead almost the whole game.
... and for all that "domination", the LA goalie came up with as many big saves as I saw from Sparks.

See Babs go give him the pat on the back after that head down hustle to try to negate the icing
Marleau giving him a push was pretty funny. |

And I'm saying they should be.
Campbell sucked. He let in two joke goals, the 1st one and the Marleau PP goal was a laugher. If they had Quick, that's a lot closer, 2-1 type game. |

The more Kappy proves he can take that spot. And if Pastrnak keeps lighting it up which he will. It's only going to hurt Nylander more and more. Guy needs to sign ASAP

well we don't know what the deal actually was, but yeah, I bet the situation is not getting better for him day to day. I seriously doubt Dubas is increasing his offer, either long term or on a bridge deal. - Aetherial
The only thing that is increasing is the interest in trading him for a D.
Kap is good...plenty of talent on the wing in the rental market this year if they really end up needing a guy. |

Holy (frank) dude what more do you need to see? A shutout? Sparks scoring a empty net goal? He played well tonight and was there to bail out his defense a few times. - Wissler

Babs just meant he wants him to play like Hyman without the puck, grinding in the corners and what not. Thats all he meant by that comment. Kapanen's hockey IQ and play making abilities are far better than Hyman's.

LA outplayed us for like 10 minutes. It's important to focus on that 10 minutes only |

Willie should have taken a deal by now. He is missing out. The problem is how we view him and how he views himself.
The way I see it, we are similar to the Pittsburgh model.
If Matthews and Tavares and Rielly are like our versions of Crosby, Malkin and Letang. That leaves Kessel. Who is our Kessel? Willie thinks its him, but its really Marner, so Willie is pretty much our James Neal. He isn’t worth as much as the other guys. Good guy to have, but jumps ship for more money elsewhere. Someone will pay him. Won’t be us though. We will package him and Gardiner for a good right handed defenseman to play with Rielly. |

He’s playing himself into a top 6 forward worthy potential.
And lol, he has enough speed he didn’t need help |

Nylander might be a top 2 -3 forward on some teams but here he is our 4th, maybe 5th best forward. |

Expendable the day Tavares signed.
