That quote isn't wrong, but a widely neglected aspect of analyzing these "shot blockers" is that they're not JUST allowing more shots while on-ice- they're also getting in front of disproportionately more shots in-zone than average Dmen.
One has to avoid looking strictly at the number of blocks and raw number of on-ice shots against and make sure to factor in overall shot attempts, time spent in-zone, that shot blocker's on-ice GA relative to his team, etc. It's a mistake I made all too often.
