Things change.
Plenty of players have signed long term deals with the intention of playing in their respected teams for the duration of the contract only to be traded a year or two later. It happens and could happen to Nylander. - Santo_44
Sure it could, could happen to any one, Matthews as well.. Doesn't mean it actually will though.. Players that out-perform their contracts are generally not traded. If they are, it's for far more value than what they offer.
If CBJ offered Jones and Werenski, I think Dubas would apologize to Nylander as he told him about the trade.

I'm not sure a reasonably signed Willy would get you Seth Jones. But a reasonably signed Marner might! Maybe Marner is the one who needs to be worried. Better demand more than he's worth! |

I honestly cannot see him staying in Toronto after "losing" a year after a contract dispute. - Scabeh
Dude, he is still leafs property. At some point, he signs, or is traded, or he sits at home wasting away his career.
If another team offer-sheets him too much, they let him walk for picks. If some team offer-sheets him a fair deal, the Leafs match.
As people keep saying, this is the only time in a player's career where the team has the control.

I wish they would realign the league and put the Leafs and Bolts in opposite conferences.
I really want to root for you guys, but your team is starting to scare the poop out of me.

The stupid playoff system is going to (frank) someone in the Atlantic again, probably the Leafs |

From my understanding, you cannot give a NMC to a player on his 2nd professional contract.
I could easily be wrong about this.
And I was only saying that's all he could do if getting traded is something that worries Nylander. - Scabeh
I think you are right - but I seem to recall that long term deals can have limited no movement clause kick in for years signed beyond age 27 - not sure though.
and I was messing with you, I'm sure Bergy told PK he wouldn't trade him. " just sign here"

Bergy messed up the PK contract. Shouldn't have bridged him. |

I liked the old system. Three divisions, but the one thing I'd switch is that the division winner is guaranteed a playoff spot, not a top 3. |

Indeed.
Imagine the return we would have received for a 6M P.K. Subban.
Something like... Weber and a 2nd!! |

St-Louis needs a goaltender and 8 hours of sleep per night for Pietrangelo. |

Bridge contracts can be great for teams - worked for Jets with Trouba - twice (and he's still under Jets' control) worked for the Tampons too for Kucherov . The best so far was probably the two by four that Lionel Ritchie got up the hoop last night with a 3 year bridge for $1.6 a year

I think there was, in 1919. Although, I could be wrong. |

If you are ever really bored (for instance, fun game to play in an airport waiting area), try to re-align the NHL into better divisions.
You can't really do it. |

Nah, he didn't have the right #attitude and he kept putting the music way too loud which pissed off Pacioretty.
I miss him.
I do love Weber though.
But I miss Subban. |

P.K. was a perfect fit in Montreal.
He just wasn't a perfect fit in his lockeroom I guess.
I'm happy for him, he looks well in Nashville. |
