USA laws will make it not happen. too many business's are worried about dealing with Canadian companies already due to the federal US stance on cannabis and with Canadian teams consistently crossing the border you can guarantee it is to much of a legal hurdle to be a legit option.
It will be the next CBA after this upcoming deal that they will consider it. |

Just a point of clarification, EK:
Yesterday marked the legalization of recreational cannabis in Canada.
Medical cannabis in Canada has been more or less legal since 2000, when a court ruled Canadians had a constitutional right to use cannabis as a medicine.
Regulations in 2013 saw licensed commercial growers allowed to supply medical cannabis.
So for the sake of your blog, yesterday isn't particularly significant. - Atomic Wedgie
Have facts ever been an important, or significant part of any of EK's blog? |

See thats where theres a stereotype. People picture someone smoking weed and they envision them dumb as rocks on the couch in a cloud of smoke with hands in a chip bag. Theres strains that give you energy, mainly sativas. I usually opt for for vaping (much safe and less harmful than smoking it) Sour Diesel strain before I work out or play hockey. Gets ya going and focused.
The most decorated Olympic athlete of all time smokes weed...and is an American. - MattStrat
I didn't mean to imply that it is a performance degrader. I'm just arguing that it isn't a performance enhancer, to the point that every athlete should be smoking to maximize their potential. (as would happen if steroids were allowed) |

I think you got paid to write this by the CBD industry since it has little to do with hockey.
We should just stick to what we know. |

I couldn't agree with you more! Yes stick to hockey.
Before the game, pack a bowl!
During the game pack another!
In between periods, feast on muchies!
After munchin' out, pack another bowl or roll a joint and enjoy with friends and relatives while you watch and analyze...............a hockey game! |

TSN had a 3 part series on legalization of marijuana, in the series, former players like Jeff Freissen and Riley Cote, have been using marijuana, to get off their addictions from painkillers, while still getting the pain relief they need.
Also on this series was former Heavyweight champ Mike Tyson, who uses it for the same reasons. A few other professiinal athletes were also included in this series and at least 2 of them have set up fairly large grow operations for medicinal use throughout North America. |

Yes, because they can become addicted to cannibus. A drug is a drug. - powerenforcer
Sure, except it's physically impossible to OD from smoking pot. The LD/50 for opioids is way too close to the amount needed to get high. And especially with people abusing what would normally be a safe dose of a long acting opioid can easily kill them, the same goes for someone abusing heroin getting a batch that's just a bit more pure than they normally use. It's so easy to OD on opioids and nigh on impossible to OD on pot in most forms. |

The CBA is complicated enough to allow for stipulations relating to transport. |

Until it's not a crime to take it over the border, it really doesn't matter what the NHL or NHLPA thinks or what the CBA says. |

There’s a difference between mental dependency and physical addiction you know? Plenty of people are mentally dependent on Fortnite. Cannibus is not an addictive substance the same way that opioids, alcohol, and caffeine are. |

(frank)ing idiots like you are the reason why governments lag behind by 30 or 40 years on some of the most common sense policies.
"I don't like it, so it must be bad!"
We need a new plague, starting with these idiots and the jackasses who pull into an intersection and block traffic because the light was green at the time. Imagine all the progress we could make if we didn't have to coddle these (frank)ing morons - Saskabush
Unreal. (frank) those people. Makes me want to get out of my car and kick off a rear view mirror or two. |

VERY different effects on neurotransmitters that can cause addiction and recent studies have shown that only approx 9% of users develop a dependent abuse disorder with cannabis. Also effects of addiction and withdrawal are not anywhere near as detrimental, and you know, overdosing is MUCH easier on opiods. These are just stats from medical sources and a medical professional who sees far bigger issues with opiod and meth abuse than any pot user ever. (Also, I've never used any recreational drugs so I'm not advocating for cannabis use, but I'll take it all day over the opiods and meth, etc). - Pavfan13
I was a firefighter and shattered my ankle in the line of duty. I received a tib/fib plate with 14 screws to keep my ankle in place. I was prescribed perkocet to cope with pain. I like many others, most famously Rush Limbaugh, became addicted to perkocet and couldn't fall asleep without it. I suffered through sleepless nights and exhausting 12-24 hour shifts at work. Cannibus saved my marriage and worklife. If it wasn't for cannibus I would have never gotten off those terrible pills which affected my personality, mood, job performance and mental clarity.
How many times do we have to watch this movie. Rick Rypien, the Boogyman, Mike Richards, Matt Johnson... I would much rather spark up from time to time and fall asleep when one ankle is swollen twice as big as the other than be a opiod or big pharma zombie.
just my 2 cents....gkg |

3 years ago my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, other than traditional methods; radiation and/or chemo the intent was just to prolong her life, maybe a year or two. We explored all options, she went to pricey US hospitals but all in all it wasn't anything different that what could be provided in Canada. I had lunch with a customer one day, and in a weak moment I mentioned what truly was on my mind. Lucky enough he knew what I was going through, and without pushing anything on me he said look up Phoenix Tears. I did and for some time I hesitated telling my parents as I assumed that they would pass it off as fluff. I spoke with my brothers and we felt, what's the worst that could happen. She was willing to try anything, and was able to source CBD "illegally" at the time. That said, she was diagnosed in Oct 2015, was scheduled for Radiation Dec 2015 and started CBD early Dec 2015 as well. Initial plan was radiation followed by chemo, as the nodes were aggressive. Went through Radiation in Dec, and follow up appointment in early Feb, but to the doctors surprise there was a reduction in all her cancer nodes, including ones that were not even radiated. Chemo was put on the shelf and she was just monitoring her nodes. In the spring there was a slight growth in her existing nodes and chemo was the suggested course of action. Between her base set CT Scan and her first chemo session she switched to a new CBD as she received her drug card. She went through her first chemo set, and the next CT Scan returned amazing results, far better than the doctor would expect from one session of chemo. She completed her chemo as well as a session of maintenance. She wont go back to chemo, I believe it was close to the end. She chose to end maintenance chemo, and continue with her CBD only solution. It has been a year and half since her last chemo session, she gets quarterly tests, and as of a couple weeks ago she is still in remission.
Sorry for the long winded comment, I don't comment very often, but this was very therapeutic and honestly if I didn't break down in Earls that day, I never would have heard about CBD, and I truly believe that its the one constant variable that has helped in my mom's recovery. Just hope to pay it forward.... |

Why would the NHL do that? I haven't seen any player scream they 'need' to smoke hooch because its going to fix their medical woes. I don't see the owners or coaches wanting their players stoned playing hockey. |
