Legalizing for recreation because it’s a “freedom of choice”. What about those who want to do cocaine, heroin, and meth. Shouldn’t that be legal too?

There’s a little more to legalizing marijuana than just a freedom to choice...

Here's a great (true) story:

Girl Guide Cashes in on Legal Dope! (They're called Guides in Canada, btw)

It's not mentioned in this story but she has CF. Good luck kid. You're doing great!

This is the most 2018 thing I've seen this year. And that's saying something.

Also, it isn't happening.

Cocaine, heroin and meth can kill someone, not sure the government's mandate is to enable someones suicide

If it's legal for me to drive a Toyota Corolla on the street then why can't I drive a Formula 1 car around???

Because there's no trunk for your hockey equipment, and it's too low to be able to use the Wendy's late night drive-thru.

Why would the NHL do that? I haven't seen any player scream they 'need' to smoke hooch because its going to fix their medical woes. I don't see the owners or coaches wanting their players stoned playing hockey.
- Aussiepenguin

If the goalies were high though, it might raise scoring! Isn't the NHL trying to raise scoring? Here's the clear answer!

Not to mention cigarettes. Tobacco has more harmful effects than Marijuana, is actually addictive, and has no health benefits. Yet cigarettes are somehow perfectly fine for people to smoke.

And from my experience, most people get started when they're pretty young, like still in public school, despite the no selling to minors laws. Cigarettes are a far worse epidemic than weed will ever be, yet they've been legal all this time.

You're so close, you almost get it...

If cocaine was regulated like alcohol we could eliminate the overdoses from bumholes cutting it with drugs like Fentanyl to make a few extra dollars.

You obviously wouldn't legalize 'meth', but if other, safer amphetamines were available you could drastically reduce the negative effects these drugs can have on a population.

Especially if you take all the money that's been wasted on the war on drugs and you start treating addiction as a mental health crisis rather than treating these people like criminals

https://www.theguardian.c...hasnt-the-world-copied-it

Full legalization/decriminalization should be where the battle turns to next. It took this long to convince corrupted governments & puritanical bumholes that weed should be legal...so we can probably add this to the list of common sense policies that our governments will fight us on

I may have worded my original comment poorly. The point I was trying to make is that EK says marijuana should be legal because we should be able to have a freedom to choose what to do.

However, that’s not the reason at all to legalize marijuana. He doesn’t talk about any of the reasons why legalizing marijuana would actually help society.

Marijuana isn’t nearly as dangerous as alcohol or even cigarettes. The reason to legalize marijuana is to reduce crime rates, reduce harmful sythentics, and to boost the economy by directly controlling sales.

What do you mean? That's a pretty rational and reasonable position to take on almost any social issue. A good rule for the government to live by is that if if isn't hurting anyone else, stay the (frank) out of it.

The thing I get a kick out of is all the "small government" conservatives who want the government to step in and regulate things like marijuana and gay marriage. Then with their next breath declare the U.S to be the land of the free

Marijuana was made illegal by the Nixon administration as a way of cracking down on the "blacks & hippies". It's a ridiculous notion that we should even have to prove that marijuana is a benefit to society in the first place.

If you look at deaths from obesity related illnesses (estimates vary, but some say as many as one in five deaths in the US), compared to death by cannabis (none, in the history of the world, ever), well....maybe the NHL and NHLPA should be getting together and hammering out a cheese ban in the new CBA.

This x1000

The analogy I always use is as follows...

A drunk person behind the wheel has no idea where they are and drives the wrong way on the interstate

A stoned person knows exactly where there are, they just drive slower getting to final destination

Cannabis is already readily available. Those that want to continue prohibiting it are disregarding reality.
