They've let the pens clutch, grab and trip their way to 2 points. Add in missing Hyman being split wide open with a high stick and it's (frank)ing garbage... and completely predictable.

I'm comfortable laying this one at the feet of the refs. How do they call two soft penalties on the Leafs, one leads to a goal and then the whistles go away entirely.

aside from the obvious blown call on the Hyman ... all there was was about 20-25 interference plays, stick holds, and holding situations.

Uh. If you can read, I said the loss was due to the Leafs not showing up, and yes the refs were bad, they missed a 4 minute penalty which could have changed the game, and multiple trips.

Sure... the 'Stat boys' say it's the best strategy.
That's just because they don't consider any other options as alternatives; e.g. playing with 5 forwards (Leafs can play Tavares-Matthews-Marner-Kadri-Marleau/Hyman for example).

Because the Leafs can't control the referees. They can however control their own effort. The Leafs lost this game because they weren't good enough more than the referees cost them.
