So you're implying that refs can't do a poor job? It's an issue of consistency. The calls that led to the only goal are forgivable if you know... they call the game the same the rest of it... but they let almost everything go after that...

Pens outplayed the Leafs in every zone. Skated way better without the puck, maintained sustained pressure, gave the Leafs no time to build speed or make plays. The Leafs got outplayed. Simple.

Referees always have been and always will be human. They'll miss poop for both teams and it usually evens out. But the Leafs can't control the referees. The difference wasn't the referees. The difference was that Pittsburgh just played better.

First he headbutt's Pretzel's stick right in front of 20,000 people. Luckily the only 4 people in the arena that didn't see it were the on ice officials.

Then he recklessly lets the Pittsburgh defender slewfoot him.

So it makes sense that on that "icing" call, where he was ahead of the Pittsburgh defender and also interfered by him, that they called it icing.
