But the Nylander hate on here is quite ridiculous.
Nylander is a very good player.
A bridge deal (3y - 4.5mln?) might be best what could happen to Leafs; it would give them an additional 2million to work with for Marner and Matthews extension, ór some extra capspace to sign some trade deadline addition.

On that last part: fully expect Rick Nash to sign with Toronto end of November.

Would rather see Nylander and Kappy winging with Matthews but if had to trade then Western conference...not sure what the fixation is with Carolina as Anihiem has better prospects and remember he still needs a contract and still not worth 8 million if that is the asking price.

Here is the thing another team MAY look at him as a top 1-3 player for them. On the Leafs he is #4 behind Matthews, Marner, and JT. So they may have no issue forking over his 8 mil demands. The other thing to factor in here is even on a short bridge deal is he going to pull this again, given this is a pattern with both his agent and father.

Now I think he is a very good player and we should do all we can to keep him, however there is a point where you have to fish or cut bait. IF we reach that point I do agree Carolina and Anaheim seem like logical fits for trades for a top 4 defencemen. Given their struggles and some depth even St. Louis. Using him as a means to shore up the defence in a sign and trade OR just a trade and let them fight to sign him is something I am sure at some point will be considered.

For now Dubas wants him here and has no intentions of trading him, but all we can do is wait and see

Idk I think that it was a good will meeting. .laying out the plan. .reassuring the noise in the media is just that!..willy wants to know that if he accepted the contract(the leafs have offered ) he's not on his way out.

I agree. They need to play hardball with nylander, but assure him he’ll be here for a long time. After that, there isn’t much they can do. If he doesn’t want to come off that 8x8 then they should tell him that they will trade him. Maybe give him a scare.
