Why does anyone have an issue with Girgs this season?
- Lunaion

I agree, there are 8- 10 other guys that are way more problematic.

Okposo
Berglund
Larson
Scandella
Risto
Skinner
Sam
McCabe

Six games. Is it at all possible that this conclusion is a product of the sabres mediocre play so far?

Like if they were playing to expectations would you still really say that 6 games is clear enough to suggest someone has adapted and is ready? what if he comes up and completely poops the bed? can't handle the puck at NHL speeds or handle the forecheck pressure. Can he still score if the time and space is taken away much quicker, which it would at the NHL level?

Isn't that always the case with callups on any team? It's a function of how well the player is playing versus how well the guy he's replacing is playing, and how the team overall is playing.

And it's not like he can't be sent down.

I meant that as it pertained to olofsson being NHL ready after 6 games.

What were expectations, though? They're 3-4 to start the season. They've played a few good games and been poop in the others. They've even been over .500 (the real .500) twice in one season.

I'm not sure they haven't exceeded expectations.

I totally agree but a lot of fans were expecting more which is why you've got a lot of disappointed folks.

Agreed. It's time to win now. Not repeat last year and subsequent failure.

I'm pissed if you can't tell.

I think it's the anemic offense more than the record that's bothering people.

Amerks are 4-4 in OT.

I get that the crap offense is frustrating. It's been frustrating for several years now. I just don't think it's all that unexpected that the worst offense in the NHL last year hasn't morphed into a good offense 7 games into this season after an offseason that saw both significant roster changes and a significant number of not-very-good-players return.

In any event, if ever "Small Sample Size" needed to be shouted from the rooftops, it's right now. That goes for the Sabres and the kids in Rochester. It's simply too soon to draw any meaningful conclusions about pretty much anything other than Johan Larsson.

Well said, especially about Johan. I fondly remember when news broke that he was threatening to go back to sweden because he thought he deserved a top 6 role

It was like when a little kid tells his parents, "I'm going to run away because you're so unfair!" and the parents respond, "Be sure to send us a postcard." Then the kid stomps back to his room.

"For the love of God, just waive him," I yell into the abyss

I think it was Schopp (who I usually dislike) who said "stop threatening me with Peterman" in regards to him still being eligible and on the roster

I know what you meant, but it's kind of like the Josh Allen situation, if the guy in front of him sucks, why not at least try him out? I mean, I get wanting to keep him down too, but if the Sabres get into an extended skid, there's really no reason not to give him a shot if he's still playing well.

Right....but it's been 6 games. Im sure there are still some things the organization wants him to work on before they're comfortable giving him an extended shot with the big club (hopefully in good role)

Essentially yeah. He thought he had a big bargaining chip there and we're all like "who the (frank) is this guy?"

A short call-up could serve a few purposes, like pulling a goalie, to get a team to wake up. Calling him up and sitting someone like Thompson, could give him(Thompson) a spark, it could also give Olofsson some real NHL experience, not just pre-season, to see what he needs to work on most, and it could send a message to the tweeners on the roster, if you don't produce you get replaced. A 3 or 4 game call-up could accomplish that if handled correctly. Underlined being key.
