I still can't figure out how the Caps won the Cup, last season.
They only have 2 players that are of the small variety, in Djoos and Walker, the rest of the team is fairly good sized men.
It must just be an anomaly.

There are basically three ingredients needed to get a Cup.
1 - Timely goaltending which they got from Holtby. Wasn't exceptional all the time but made saves when needed.
2 - Norris Trophy quality Dman. No maybe Carlson isn't the Doughty/Hedman category but he played like one with almost a 70 pt season last year.
3 - Rolling 4 lines w/contributions. People here knock on Beagle but he was a pretty big part of that cup team amongst others. Timely goals from all 4 lines is key in a deep run in the PO's.
Plus their stars OvenChicken and Oshie...Backstrom and a few more didn't disappear come PO time like many star players do.
Basically they just had all the ingredients come together at the right time for them.
Much like us in 2011 we just didn't get the timely saves or the Norris trophy effort in the SCF. It is what it is.
