If Sanheim could play the right side he would probably be playing in Hagg's spot - Glak18
That's total nonsense. Hak clearly has Sanheim behind Hagg on his depth chart. The only time that ever changed was when Hagg got hurt last season.
Sanheim played the right side a lot in the AHL, by the way. Morin-Sanheim was a pairing for almost the entire 16-17 season. |

As of tonight that paper will have been behind the bench for the 7th most games in team history. - dragonoffrost

Well when NHL teams start playing defensemen as pairs of 1 player then you are right, unfortunately pairs consist of 2 players.
If Sanheim could play the right side he would probably be playing in Hagg's spot, but he doesn't he is below Provorov and Ghost. Of course Ghost can play with Provorov, but sadly that pairing looks like balls right now. To be fair Hagg has been playing just as well if not better than Sanheim this year.
But the Flyers just won a game, let's change it up because...pretty on paper? - Glak18
Hak made changes after game 1 when they won, then after the florida game after they won. |

Sanheim can play the right side. I prefer him on the left though.
Flyer's changed the line up for game 2 for reasons... |

Why would that be? Because Hagg is more experienced, plays physical and better defensively? Pfffft Hak is stupid. |

Hagg is great at generating defense if that's what you mean by better defensively.
Not great one on one, either.

Hagg isn't a clear cut better defender than Sanheim, though. Hagg is better along the boards, and anywhere strength is required. But he's an absolute liability trying to defend the rush, or anything that requires speed. Sanheim is good on defending the rush because he is more mobile, has better reach and reads the play a bit better than Hagg. Add the fact that Hagg cannot get the puck out of his zone with as much efficiency as Sanheim into the equation.
Again, -- for all the trashing I did on Hagg last year, he's playing better this year, but he's still limited. |

We're 4 and 4, 1 point out of first in the Metro, bleeding goals like a 4 year olds soccer tournament, watching our top defender struggle like it was his rookie season again and the projected 7th D is playing second pair minutes, why change now? |

Only on a Flyer thread will you find after a game where the team won and showed effort finally will you find someone say "Change it up, not good enough" for whatever their agenda is.
Only if the Flyers were more like the teams they lose to, oh no they all have 6 top pairing defensemen. Their 6th/7th Dman is greater than our 6th/7th Dman and that is why we lost.
P.S. Keep in mind Sanheim is part of that, so is Provorov, Ghost, Hagg, Gudas....but it is probably because 1 player plays less than another. |

That sounds good and dandy, but it sounds like you just predetermine play based on a scouting report. Has Hagg made mistakes? Of course just as many as Sanheim. Sanheim is more mobile than Hagg, but that hasn't effected his exits this year. Oh you mean those giveaways...the same ones Sanheim has been guilty of? |

Let's just agree that Hagg gets more play time because he gives Hakstol sad greasy handies in a KFC bathroom |

Let's not focus on Hagg and his greasy mitts, maybe Travis needs to focus more on the twist and less carrying the puck in the zone for a giveaway. |

I am one of those who made a comment and I stick with it. They won ONE game. If they show up like the team from 2-3-4 games ago, again leadership is in major question. The whole team knows what they have to do to compete, if they keep forgetting a change will have to be made. |

I feel like that's what you're doing with Hagg.

Yes it has. Hagg, cannot cleanly turn around when and retrieve a puck and move it before he's pressured. He turns around and usually chips the puck up the boards, which is fine, but Sanheim has the ability, and has used it, to turn away from the pressure, by time and make a safe pass out of the zone. That's what mobility can do for you.
I'm not trying to attack you here at all. It's not Hagg vs Sanheim, either. If you think Hagg deserves more ice time than Sanheim, so be it, but don't act like Sanheim hasn't played very well and deserves more ice time. Don't also act like it isn't reasonable to question Hakstol when he says that that playing well in a designed role isn't a reason to increase icetime for a younger player. A player with a lot of potential. |

For a video of Sanheim doing exactly what I said he is doing (using his mobility and reach to shut down attackers and alleviate pressure with smooth skating, good vision and plus passing/puck skills) check this out. It's from the vegas game.

These guys could drop their gear mid game and take a steaming curry dump on the logo at center ice and there'd be guys here getting their ticket stub from the game tattooed on their firstborn. |

I would pay to see that. Just saying. Maybe on an opposing teams logo after an icing or something. |

I guess that means Hagg just flops in the corner and chips pucks out like grenades. My argument isn't over the ability of Sanheim, it is what you choose to see and remember from Hagg and it seems it is only his mistakes, but I could do the same thing with Sanheim mistakes. |
