Pominville walks or re-signs for $1m
Sign Skinner to a Kane deal
Extend mccabe, 3x2.2-OK
let Beaulieu, Elie, Girgensons and Larsson walk_Pretty
Erod 6 years 1.85 per
sign Simmonds, 4 years, 6.75m - or spend a pick to move Okposo and sign Stone
Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart
Nylander-Mittelstadt-Simmonds
Olofsson-Berglund-Okposo
Sheary-Erod-Sobotka
Pominville or equal
O'Regan/Malone
Fin. - jcragcrumple
Pommenville can stay at a HEAVY hometown discount if he really wants to play. With the understanding that he has to retire anytime its obvious the wheels are falling off.
McCabe, sure.
Scrubs, Sayonara or TDL or whatever. Who cares? Welcome, top Amerks players!
Erod is a keeper. Raise him, but don't break the bank. He is currently what Wilson and Sheary were.
Simmonds, Nah. Im worried that Okposso may become Moulson 2.0.
By the TDL, we should move out most vets that we can and bring up the best players we have in Rochester.
Or, move those vets in the off season and assume those Rochester kids get their spots next year.

I look at him as a candidate for a value contract; someone to exceed the contract value if they can lock him up at a good price. That's important in a salary cap world, and there aren't many candidates on the roster to exceed their AAV. I would gladly go long term on a speedy versatile forward who can play top-6 when needed, but also play bottom 6 LW/C/RW
As for Okposo, it's too late to worry. That contract is an albatross within 18 months. All we can hope for is retaining salary, an amnesty buyout via the lockout, or he decides he has post concussion syndrome.
I would definitely commit to Simmonds for 4 years, and I'd commit to Stone for 6 |

As much as Id love Stone on this team, i dont think we can commit anymore big contracts to wingers.
It's either got to be low risk/high reward deals or expiring contracts. |

I'm all for using picks to dump Okposo next summer. LA or AZ seem to be good candidates. Retain 1.5m or so if necessary |

LA has no room for much of anything, let alone okposo
His 15 team no trade list kicked in this year so that may make things challenging.
I think they're stuck with this deal until either
a)amnesty buyouts are given post lockout
b) The 21-22 season, when his salary drops to 4 million. |

LA is going to be looking to rebuild. Kovy and a 4th for Okposo and the STL 1st
Assuming either would waive |

How does this help them? They get a worse player and worse deal.
Not to mention that Kovy is 35+ contract.

Kovy is a shorter contract and a better goal scorer. Emphasis on the first part. 2 more years versus 4 |

Yeah Im saying how does this help the kings? They're on the hook for 2 additional years of dead weight instead of whatever kovy brings and if he retired with us before contract expiry they'd take that cap hit too.
Even with the STL pick this would ruin them |

Couldn't they just get picks by trading Kovalchuk...for picks? like without okposo's poopty deal?
Sorry I just don't buy that a rebuilding team would actively choose to add one of the worst contracts in the NHL (they've already got 2 in the top 10/15) just to get a pick between 15-31. They could easily get picks for him in the summer. |

I don't think anyone is gonna offer a 1st for Kovy especially at his salary, but we'd be in a good position to do it

Right but what makes more sense for a rebuilding team.
Moving Kovy's salary for 2nd round picks
Adding Okposo's deal for a 1st?
At worst, they'll likely just retool having committed to Kopitar long term. Adding Okposo's deal doesn't help them turn it around, not a great sell for keeping Doughty happy either. |

It is, and to be fair im working under the assumption that kovy plays well this year. Well enough that someone will take that risk if they think they're getting a high end goal scorer for 2nd rounders. |

Stone's going to get a lot of interest and a big 7 year deal. If we're in on him, great. Seems like a long shot though.
Frankly, I'm fine with simply re-signing Skinner, making all of our picks in the draft this year, and not making any significant long term signing. Likely need some kind of trade on D, depending on how prospects develop.

Agreed, but I would move one of the picks to land an above average defensively RHD. |
