Pretty easy schedule in the next 8 games
CGY & CBJ are the toughest
But also have OTT & MTL twice each
Plus NYR & VAN
We could get around 10pts if we play well - jdfitz77
Mtl and Ott are playing way better than most expected, if price gets hot he can change games. I'd love to actually see us start to climb the points list instead of hover at .500. even if we just get 10 point over and stay there the rest of the year.... I'm so sick of feeling like wow we got to .500. only to loose it again a game or two later. it would be good for the kids . |

Plenty of room
Funny how u gave me sh!t about saying Berglund would be a 4th liner NEXT YEAR
And then he was on the 4th line the FOLLOWING GAME
Lolololololololol - jdfitz77
What’s funny is you thinking that’s what I gave you poop about. Also, didn’t you just say today he could move up the lineup?? |

True,
but i doubt it lasts with MTL & OTT
Price being hot is an obvious difference maker though |

1) idk about that?
1 “average” year in net = at least 3m?
Doubt it
2) compliance buyout Okposo(6m), Bogo & Scandella gone (9m+)...
that’s 15m in room, plus 2 more Cap increases which I’d guess around 5m-ish
3) maybe Sam is traded & not in need of a big raise
Tough decisions would have to be made
But it’s generally do-able
EDIT
*that was also without a Stone added,
which we wouldn’t HAVE to do
I just really like him as a player & was being selfish - jdfitz77
That's being optimistic about a compliance buyout, yeah you gain $10M by losing Bogo and Scandella, but you still have to replace the ones you lose, and 2nd pairing defensemen don't make $1M, at least not for long unless you can keep cycling out ELCs on defense and the bottom 6 you're going to be in trouble. You run out of road real quick, just ask Chicago.
Sure, you don't NEED Stone, but you need a 1W and they cost money. In the neighborhood of $6M+.
Edit: One injury at a key position and you're (frank)ed. |

I’ve said a couple times that trying him with Jack might get him scoring
Probably the ONLY thing
Also...
you absolutely made a comment about him for sure being a 4th liner next year
Even though i never said anything about it being “for sure”
And he was a 4th liner the next 2 games

It’s pointless to debate.
We do that and in two years either Guhle steps up and plays well...and needs to be paid, or we’re paying 2nd pairing D men.
Not to mention I would hope they plan on trying to get a legit top 2-3 guy to go with Dahlin.
Trading 9 and 90 had 0 to do with this season. |

No, my point was that you had a crystal clear vision of where Berglund would be in 2-3 years (which I never once said you were wrong) but you refused to answer the question on where O’Reilly would be, and said it was “impossible to say”
You make up arguments we aren’t having.
I even agreed with you Berglund won’t get 17-20 goals |

I mean for a year or two you can make it work, but then you have to blow it up, it's a super short window that can be derailed by any number of things. Luck, injury, facing a hot goalie, the fact that they might not play well together, because that's a lot of ice-time needs with not enough to go around. And we know Kane and Eichel play well together only about 50% of the time and that's being generous. |

Like i said, tough decisions
But that lineup had a 4th line of
Nylander-Rodrigues-Olofsson
All of whom can move into the top 9
With guys like Asplund, Malone, Davidsson, etc still on deck
As well as signing cheap Vets to play on line4
And Pilut & Guhle replace Scandella & Bogo on defense
I feel ok about that
Especially in 2years time
Teams work the Cap every year
Using the Hawks is a worst case scenario
I’m not gonna assume we’d be in their shoes
They made it work for quite a while before they FINALLY missed the playoffs last year
And they look good again this year |

And he’s destined to stay there for eternity?
You know Kane is on San Jose’s 3rd line right?
James Neal on CGY’s 3rd.
Reinhart is on our 3rd.

Just said it’s funny he was dropped to the basement the very next game
And what line is Kane on?
https://www.dailyfaceoff....sharks/line-combinations/
Check again bro
He’s been playing with Pavelski ALL YEAR
Also...
Kessel spends time on line3 with Pitt
Some teams like to spread out the scoring
That’s not why Berglund was dropped to line4 though
That happened bc he hasn’t been playing all that well, at least offensively |

Congratulations, you barely squeezed it in next year. It doesn't fit this year and it's poorly planned two+ years out. I think you know this and you're trolling. - Lunaion
Could make it for this year
Would just have to lose some dead weight now
Yes, it would cost picks, etc
2 years out isn’t actually that bad
Money coming off
Cap going up like it always does
It does involve moving young talent up,
but every team has to do that |

Pavelski. But he started on the 3rd
First common center is JP with 50 min
Soumela with 25 min together (5 on 5) |

Is it? You need 2 2nd pairing D-Men, and that's ~$4M each, so you've got ~$8M of your windfall taken up, Dahlin, let's be conservative and say ~$5.5M on a bridge, Mittelstadt ~$4M on a bridge, you're going to have to pay a goalie ~$4M unless UPL is ready, and all the kids you have in the lineup will probably at least double their money. You can't have that top-heavy of a roster for long, especially when the guys at the bottom are all 2 years from getting, if not "big" deals, much more than they're currently making. And all the other guys you want to bring in are all totally unproven.
You can't have your top 6 forwards making 54% of the cap. The Caps won last year with their top 6(including the best scorer this generation) making ~46% and also the criminally underpaid Carlson. The Pens won with their top 6 making 52%, but they also have the best player of the generation and maybe the third best player of the generation, plus a top 5-7 scorer in Kessel. It's just not feasible to tie that much money at the top of the roster without having someone being way underpaid, or having the best players in a generation taking up said chunk.

It's not going to nearly counteract what we'd hope would be new deals for the kids. Even if it goes up $5M each year for the next 2(Seattle will add a nice bump). If Dahlin is as advertised he's going to get at least $8M. You don't (frank) around on a bridge for that kind of player, just ask Montreal. Mittelstadt, let's just say $6.5M on a longterm deal. That's already -$4.5M. I used lesser deals as bridge deals, but you don't want to do that with players who prove themselves. You're just going to end up trying to get rid of ROR and Kane so that the kids can step up, and you're not going to get more for ROR in 2 years, and not many teams can take on 5 years of $7M for a winger who scores 25 goals a year and provides no assists other than by accident(I like Kane but he's overpaid). |
