Justin, have you heard which defender would get moved/demoted to make room for Forsling? |

I think he walked both of them - 6628
That little studder step is a new move I believe? I don't recall seeing that before. Clearly he worked on new skills this off-season plus he had the explosiveness to then blow by too. Looks like a brand new Toews out there. A dynamic play maker. He has gotten away from the cycle game too which should help with some of the wear and tear. Only taking 25 crosschecks to the back a game for going to the next instead of the usual 50 or so. |

I had an earlier comment on here about trading a few of Manning/Davidson/Rutta/Gustafsson. I completely forgot about Forsling. Quite the logjam. |

Is there some gross side effect of using this board for long periods of time that I should know about? |

Toews has been playing so well. I mean he has put up some points, but I can think of 4-5 times this year where he made a play happen that lead to a goal where he didn't get an assist. Mostly creating turnovers or causing issues in front of the net. - breadbag
Night and day difference in JT's performance this year compared to last. Agree with your post. |

Nate Schmidt resigned with Vegas, 6 years 5.95 aav.
Also, per David Pagnotta, Lou will listen to offers for Leddy. |

I also agree. I always thought that he wasn't done and would rebound, but damn, he has more than rebounded. If he keeps it up, may be one of the best, or maybe even his best season. |

It's like a power squiggle (drill to gain and maintain momentum without lifting blades off the ice) where he gets under the D man. He then looks and leans back to get on his heels which also looks off the defender, who probably thinks he's going to stop or change direction. He uses the squiggle to gain the corner on the guy and then starts with the crossovers to pull away. He did it right in front of me the other night and it was beautiful. He couldn't do that last year which supports the guys who thought his back was the issue last year. |

Schmaltz’s excellent skating and other positive attributes make him a clear keeper for me. However he does need to take the next step where he uses the whole ice and exposes opposing players, by drawing them out of position, creating ice for himself, and as you so correctly say his teammates. It may be that he will benefit from being away from Kane as he deferred too much. - Z3Hawk
I watched part of the TB-Colorado game last night. Deep speed on both teams - this is where the league will be going in / for the next several years.
The Hawks, I think, do not have the deep speed that Cup contenders need today - TB, Colorado, Nashville....
Fortin, Schmaltz, Kahun has decent speed, Saad has power speed, some others - but I don't think they can play the fast game with some of the other burners in the league.
It is very important that they make sure that Fortin and Schmaltz (the fastest on the team, I think) develop into quality NHLers - can't give up on either of them. It's one reason why I was not happy to see DuClair go - I think they gave up too soon on a still-young player who can skate in this new league, whatever his faults and required development. |

Toews also dropped out of the conversation by analysts and such about elite centers over the past few years and many would argue deservedly so. The way he has resurged so far this season, one would have to think he's not only back in the conversation but also arguably amongst the elite of the elite. |

Gotta think in order of production and contract who would be first to go...
Davidson - signed for peanuts and hasn't played much
Rutta - one year deal that could be traded for a another expiring contract (forward would be best) to stash in Rockford (still think this contract was just given to him to keep Stan's european cred in tact)
Manning - don't see any team looking to pick up his deal with another year left
Gus - Playing the best outta all these names so far and signed to a reasonable deal, don't see him going anywhere |

Not to nitpick, but I wouldn't lump Gustafsson in with Manning/Davidson/Rutta. To me, Gustafsson is a really promising dman. He's got solid moves escaping the zone and in the offensive zone. He still needs to work on board battles and shutting down lanes near the net, but I really like what we're starting to see from him. He's been somewhat around the last three years but now he's getting some full time chances. The analytics community is very high on him and I don't want to ship off a promising defenseman just because we have a lot of hope in Rockford and Juniors.
Also, to the guy who said 'new Jonathan Toews', I give you this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMoq3kmT26Q |

He's expensive and he's not the next wave, but if you want a guy who can skate the puck out there ya go. Rather have him than another journeyman like they have now. If I was SB I'd at least ask #7 & #2 what they think. Not likely to happen due to the money aspect. Plus Lou would probably abuse SB trading with him. |

I lumped Gus in because he gives you the best chance to get a decent return, or even make someone like Manning able to be traded. I think he's playing well and would like him to continue to get time, but will he get it with Keith/Seabs/Murphy/Jokiharju and Forsling when he returns? Or does Gus drop into the 5/6 pairing and lose some of his value? I don't see any of those 4 being moved, so to me, Gus fits in the log jam that is the 5/6 spot with 4 other guys. |

I'm feeling good about the future of goaltending for the Hawks. Would be great if Ejdsell can get there. That shot he has would be an asset to the team. Kinda like Bickell(or maybe better) in the day when it comes to how good he shoots. - breadbag
Like ADB, Ejdsell is too slow to play in the NHL. ADB is also too short and Ejdsell is too tall. (red font) |

Colliton on Gustav Forsling's return: "I thought he was excellent. Skating well.. really heavy stick. Coming out of battles with the puck and being physical when he needed to. But he had such a good gap, he didn’t have to defend as much as he would otherwise" |
