I don't know if Pronger got any games for stepping on Kesler, I think he just got fined

To be fair, suspensions were not common I don't think until the last 5-10 years.

Sometimes I think it should be no harm, no foul. and when you see the harm, a suspension somehow has to be justified.

When I first saw the hit on EP, i thought it was a little extra after the hit, there always seems to be a little extra that doesn't get called.

and then see the replay, he grabbed him and tossed him down on the ice, kid looked like a rag doll.

tbh, if I was in Matheson's position, I'd prolly done the same thing, if I could have, finish the check, throw the opponent to the ice. adrenaline pumping and feeling like a beast. and likely felt like sh1t after realizing kid got hurt.

it is a fine line.

I think you have to prevent injuries. Step on someone with skates on should honestly be 20 games IMO. That could end a guys career. Obvious intent to injure needs to go, I'm fine with it. But I do think there have been some soft ones with no obvious intent, Matheson had intent and you can't just blame emotion. We all learned to control them on the ice and keep yourself in check.

Thanks for that Carol.
That was a dangerous hit for sure.
Hitting someone from behind like that is also a chickenpoop play.

No I picked them up at James Neal's new store in Calgary called 'where UFA's go to die'.

Lets start a list of guys that need to be "Steve Moore'd" for barely questionable hits. We can list the name of the offender, whether or not a penalty was called, the number fights that occurred because of the hit and weather or not the Canucks won the game. Maybe we will see trends if we keep track of all of them:

Offender - Penalty? - # of Fights - Canucks Win?
Mike Matheson - No - 0 - Yes
Tomas Hyka - No - 0 - Yes

- Nelson19777

lol this could actually be quite comical.

Kind of like when redmile posted the all-troll Canucks lineups a few years back.

Great stuff.

I can't imagine what went on in the old days when not every game was televised.

but now dangerous stuff has to get called. go over the line and pay the price.

consistency will always be a challenge, but the approach or the intent of the rules has to be. player safety.

fighting is gonna be gone soon or mean an immediate ejection from the game. just a matter of time.

I don't agree. The NHLPA is strong and I don't think they'll ever vote out fighting. Just my opinion.

Gino was just on sportsnet saying he would have layed a beating on Matheson so the league can see you don't mess with our stars. God I miss him.

so it really looks like the Canucks have totaly cut ties with Gagner , IMO a Bearschi injury would be the ideal call up time otherwise

I like the fighting and big checks, but I'd guess eventually both will be eliminated from the game.

anything that causes or likely to cause head trauma. it just seems inevitable to me.

makes me wonder if we are more susceptible to concussions today compared to years ago or if it just wasn't diagnosed years ago?

I understand the players union is strong but with those lawsuits around concussions, the nhl as a business should be looking at every way to protect players.

I'd guess hitting will be eliminated from football in the future too, even if it is distant future.

rugby will survive somehow though.

should be fun watching pro sports soon, flag football, more shinny hockey...may as well start getting interested in the always exciting game of baseball.
