damn divsion is a combined 38-19-10..
you have 6-10 game bad streak...you are toast in the central...
blows looking at you... - bogiedoc
The Central Division is also pushing for all the wildcard spots in the West. Central teams can potentially outpoint Pacific teams and still miss the playoffs. |

Agreed... we need to criticize Schmaltz for more relevant issues, like his hair cut or choice of suit. With hair like that there's no way he should be signed to a long term contract. - DarthKane
Sharp got the pretty boy money, hahaha. |

If Bowman can start to show some restraint especially with RFA's where he does hold the hammer, we should be in good shape going forward. - 67hawks
THE example for this will be what SB does with Schmaltz.
I am convinced his removal from the second line will remain pretty permanent for some of the reasons other posters gave, and by effect, not playing on Kane's line will have an impact on his end of year numbers.
However, it was apparent watching him in isolation last night that he is still where O zone possession goes to die, no matter what line he is on. The guy wins ZERO board battles.
Actually his upside reminds me more of a Frolik type who can be relentless on the PK with his stick, and can actually backcheck pretty well as long as the plays can be made with his stick.

I SAID THE SAME THING!!!!
Like he was taking his mug shot.
Rose did the same thing with the Bulls once. - I Am The Breadman
Not fair. Some have ironically nicknamed him “Smiley.” Not saying it is healthy that he doesn’t openly celebrate at the moment but I think it has more to do with his present personality than being on the 3rd line. It seems on many levels he is a work in progress. |

Wouldn't mind him in a hawks sweater. |

He's on a kick ass 3rd line with Fortin, just put Kampf there and I will say I love it. |

i didnt like that facial reaction by Schmaltz after he assisted on the Fortin goal - almost like, yeah we scored, but i am not happy to be on Line 3 - thoughts anyone? - glennjpawlak22
If he has a bad attitude, better to figure it out before signing him to a big long term contract.

What is going on with the kings??? Talk about laying an egg. Just 1 point ahead of DET for worst in the league. |

I just liked him as a player when he was with Tampa. Height or anything else is a cherry on top.
But if he's on waivers ...... that is making me reconsider. He might suck, but Ana is good defensively. |

For me the jury is still out on Fortin but no question he has had a positive impact on the speed with his youth and speed! It is my contention that he is not as comfortable in "controlled play" whereas his assets are more odd man and open ice advantages. With that, he is now more suited and thriving on the third line! - D2D
You are right. The jury is still out for me too but I’m cautiously optimistic. Based on his AHL play and actual benching in the play-offs it is a pleasant surprise he is to this point putting it together at the NHL level. As I’ve said he seems like one of those unique players that rises to the competition.

I saw a post earlier this year after Manning was signed by the Hawks that said Manning and McDavid hate each other. Maybe we can see more of that on Sunday.
Kunitz should be sent to Rockford to be an assistant coach. |

Lukewarm on Hayden as I have stated before. Big body with average skating, hands, and decision-making! Right now he loses the puck too easily! However, he does serve a purpose for the Hawks in the protection, net front presence, forecheck banger. His game should always be North / South. If you want to compare him with Martinsen as they are the two that are playing that role and shuttling in and out of the lineup for each other is that Hayden is more offensively-talented with a nice shot that can score. He was a proven goal scorer at Yale. - D2D
Hayden has to actively take the body more. That simply has to be part of his game or his value goes down - a lot.

Great post! This puts in very blunt form that the Hawks cannot blow leads or give unnecessary OT points in Western Conference games and especially in Central Division games. The Hawks should have won the Wild game, in regulation. Instead they blew the lead and lost in OT. There would be significant separation between the teams if the Hawks had won in regulation.

Weird thing with Sustr is that he was a full season shutdown guy for like four years in a row and then only played 44 games last year and now on waivers....
Has to be a reason why. Injury, attitude, who knows. |

Manning is beyond useless. He should hit the waiver wire immediately. Unfortunately that won’t happen anytime soon, so I have root for an injury. Too bad Vesey didn’t land any damaging blows.
Kunitz also should never see the ice again. - Ogilthorpe2
Agreed with the first two sentences and the last one, but even with an AHL dman in the lineup...I can't wish injury on the guy. Unfortunately, I fear we are stuck watching Manning this year and next, another brilliant Stan Bowman signing! Good for Stan as appears to have found a legit NHL winger in Kahun. But Kunitz, unless hes a HUGE voice in the locker room and on the bench....probably worse at hockey today than John Scott or Brandon Mashinter both were.
Murphy + 2nd for Nylander?? |
