6' 191lbs per Hockey Reference. Adequate size given his skill and speed. You bet your sarcastic ass that the Hawks need more power wingers in the top 9, but the ability to shed Murphy's cap hit and acquire a young Top line winger at a discount....it was a suggestion. Kahun is smaller and less skilled, and has been a great fit with Toews and Cat. Imagine what they could do with Nylander on the line??
Also, Nylander has 8 points in 13 career playoff games, so maybe check your facts before your next snide remark. I know it's hard to control yourself and check facts before jumping at the opportunity to mock someone on the internet. - EnzoD
Oh I check my facts. The main fact is Nylander will not be a UFA at the end of the season. |

Two very solid games in a row.
And, I know there are many factors to our great start. Toews back, young guys contributing....but....I can not tell you how much better I find watching the hawks play with Crawford back there. He makes such a difference to the whole team. Many say Crawford been overrated while on those Cup winning teams, I would say the opposite....Crawford doesn't get the credit he deserves because he was on those strong teams. Crawford is undeniably a top 5 goalie in the NHL. Fans of other teams really have no clue in this respect!!! |

He’s god awful. - Ogilthorpe2
Agreed, he's a cross between Timmonen and Sopel in their final days. Makes Nick Boynton look like a hall of famer. |

The Leafs are staring down the possibility of Nylander holding out the entire season, and losing him as a UFA for nothing. They just can't afford Nylander since Matthews will get $12mil and Marner will get $8mil. I'm just not a fan of Murphy, and getting his $3.5mil off the books would be a big benefit, especially with some attractive UFA's next summer. Like you say, the new NHL is all about speed and skill, and Nylander with Cat-Toews or Nylander with Kane would be fun. - EnzoD
Would you trade Murphy smaltz for Nylander and a 3rd sign Nylander 6 years at 7 million per year with a modified no trade clause? No team is going to give the hawks a top for d man unless they are in desperate help for speed and skill like L.A. maybe smaltz for martienz excuse the spelling something like that then trade rutta for a 4th or 5th round draft pick or low level prospect.

Rewatching the game, not only did he have several bad turnovers, there were numerous opportunities (especially on the pk) when he could and should have cleared the puck, and he stood stationary by it. In front of Crow! |

That's what I'm saying, man. This board has a tendency to go to the extremes quickly based on a win or a loss.
LOL'ing at all the "Q won't make it to February and he should be out before then" talk on here after they lost a game.
I get the frustration after last season, but this is a different team--that's obvious. There's a completely different buzz on the ice. It's a long season, there's going to be some losses, off nights, etc., etc.
I love how they've started, so let's see how it goes.
One game at a time, fellas - Hank3Henshaw
I have to say i was very concerned with the Arizona game, they looked so much like last year it scared me. Then the Blue Jackets then the Bolts game, again worried me not because they lost, because they were playing the same crappy defense, well they didn't lose the BJ game but that for sure was a goalie win. Looks like the message to Saad had a trickle affect to the team. Win or lose I'll be happy, well i won't be happy if they lose, but more accepting of it if this team plays hockey games like they did in their last 2 contests. Complete level was very good and really that's the only thing they can control.

If we could get Nylander w/out giving up the farm but giving up
Murphy/Mitchell and a 2nd or some such package only on a
guarantee that we can sign Nylander for something reasonable
say 6x4 bridge or 7x7 it makes the top 9 look rather good.
Toews/Cat/Nyland-Kahun
Saad-Nyland /Arty/Kane
Saad-Kahun/KFC/Fortin
suddenly the team looks pretty good, need one more
solid D man, but Im a dreamer

Honestly if we have to pay him a ton of money, I'm not interested, I'd rather sign Panarin and not give up anything i mean if he wants $8 and Panarin agrees to$9... |

...AND he screened Crow to the point Crow had to make an awkward save. I ain't never seen such a doofus. At any level.

He’s also playing hardball with a team he has no leverage with. Sounds like an immature, spoiled brat to me.
I’d be very leery of bringing in that kind of entitled, me first, type of personality into the room. |

His play has been top notch! I'm super happy for him. Just watching the few interviews he has done since the injury, he has come a long way and is playing as well has he ever has. |

I was at yesterday’s morning skate and game. Murphy was there watching the morning skate from the end of the bench on the D side of the ice. Also saw him in the tunnel outside of the locker room night of the ANA game, looking very loose and happy. Could be he’s back on the sooner side of the time frame. I hope he’s back sooner than later. They could use him. Not loving the Brandons. |

Yes, but I doubt Toronto would.
I'm not a Murphy fan so losing his $3.8M (for the next 4 years) provides the cap space to give Nylander his $7M-$7.5M contract. He's probably not able to play center but then neither is Schmaltz in a top-6 role with the Hawks with Toews on one line and Kane on the other. Schmaltz may be able to play top-6 wing but we know Nylander has played top-6 wing very well. Move Kahun to 3C and either have Nylander play LW opposite Kane or RW on Toews line. At some point when Sikura comes up the 3rd line could be the same one that played together at the Traverse City tourney this summer.
Dcat-Toews-Nylander
Saad-Anisimov-Kane
Fortin-Kahun-Sikura
or
Saad-Toews-Dcat
Nylander-Anisimov-Kane

Agree price has to be in the $5-7 range depending on
term, i.e. a bridge or long term
Getting Panarin for free is better option but will
either Stan or Mcd want in on that?

I'm curious what they're up to in Ottawa. I think they want to try and keep Stone and Duchene but they don't want to lose them for nothing. Stone would be a great add. |

There have been a few rumours that Philly is dangling Travis Sanheim, a big defenseman who can skate, is smart and uses positioning and smarts defensively however the offensive side of his game may be limited. He would also be a low cap hit with the team having control for a few years. I think the Hawks biggest need is on the back end and while Sanheim is a project I think he may pan out long term. I have no idea what Phill would want back and I'm not sure what his value is? |
