Pominville isn't going to be a fixture on that first line, nor was he ever meant to be.
That said, he will be back there multiple times this season. - buffalofan19
You may very well be right. I am hoping once Sam gets his legs back, as it looks like he's starting to, he'll kick Pommer out for the duration. Maybe wishful thinking, but he has it in him.
Pommer has done 10x better job than Samson was for the start of the year, but I think Samson can bring more offensive fire power to that line w/ Principal Skinner and ECHL. |

I admit, he has acquitted himself much better than I thought. Good to see.
Wonder if the Sabres will extend him on a vet contract. |

Maybe I’m just looking for an excuse, but I wonder if the late report to camp is causing some delay in his return to form. |

Reinhart is on pace for a 50 point year...
6 points in his first 10 games of the season is a career high for him

Reinhart is what he is imo. He’s a top 6 RW that will never live up to the 2nd overall pick but is still a useful player. The fan base will always hold that over his head. I see him having a career reminiscent to Pommer. Where he quietly contributes but gives you good numbers over the course of his career. |

Some of the stats Pominville has hit (or will soon) this season are definitely impressive and he probably was one of the most quiet players to go about doing that. He's just shy of 1000 games played and now has over 700 points in those 1000 games. I think that's pretty incredible honestly.

In all seriousness, I don't think he is anywhere near the reason the Blues are in trouble. However, I do think it's a pretty clear by his stints in Colorado, Buffalo, and now St. Louis that what O'Reilly brings to the table is simply immensely overvalued.
He reminds me of Shane Doan, a guy who received a ton of accolades for doing "everything right" everywhere...except the win column. - buffalofan19
Shane Doan actually led a rag tag team to the conference final though. A geriatric Ray Whitney, a 30 year old and always underrated Radim Vrbata and Doan led the team in points that year. |

I assume Jack and Skinner are staying together. I'm not sure Sam is a good fit with them. Pommer plays a simple game with them, still has decent speed, wins some board battles, goes to the net, and has a good shot. That's just not Sam's game.

Depends. If Sam goes to the net like he does on the PP typically then it shouldn't matter. That's all Pominville has done. He's gone to the net and it's paid off. Sam does that already on the PP, so it's not like he can't. |

In Fantasy Football, I've always been told to avoid drafting players that skip training camp as injuries and slow starts are more prevalent.
Can't imagine it doesn't transcend to hockey.
Might be an excuse, but may also be valid. No way to tell, but there's still hope. He's starting to move his feet and attack again. He is absolutely a dud if he's standing still. Hope springs eternal and all that. |

I know your being hopeful, but pommer has outplayed sam all year. Sam was invisible until he scored last night. Someone even referred to him as "kasper" last night.
Just a few seconds before sam scored, I told my wife he was due.
Liked his effort in front on the goal, I think he just took a puck to the Chest in front of the net. Gritty effort.
Hopefully this ignites him, but maybe try him with Mitts?
Sam sets up nice on the pp, to the left of the goalie (kinda behind the net) another good spot for his quick passes.

I wouldn't mind seeing him with Mitts, I think they could play off each other well offensively, but worry there is a lack of strength that would come along with that if they were put together. Not that E-Rod is a horse, but he's much faster, so he can get around some of that. |

Maybe sobotka on the line?
I like his game so far....
Maybe tage grows into that spot
I'm shocked that mitts-sam have 1 goal combined in 10 games. Maybe they get rolling together |

Mittelstadt has had a bunch of good looks over the last few games too. Just can't seem to get it by the goalie. I think he'll break through soon. |

I like his game alot.
I feel differently about him and his lack of production.
He needs a good break or 2.
Maybe it is the hold out.
But he started slow last year, and the first year 9gp 1 assist. No holding out

Honestly, I didn't even notice Sam until shortly before his goal yesterday. I was at a friends house watching and said to him during the 2nd intermission that I hadn't noticed him.
Glad he finally got one, but I must say I wasn't impressed with his play through 2 periods. |

The GAR metric some advanced stats folks love to mention only shows him well because the guy who came up with it weighted ice time and faceoffs just as heavily as things like primary points. If you scale his ice time/FO to what a normal 2C gets he winds up looking like....a normal 2C. - Sabresfan-365
That's where the eye-test comes in. The people who say he's one of the best players in the NHL are not watching the games. |

When Sam's playing well, he goes to the net. He never wins a board battle, is slower, and has a weaker shot than Pomminville. They play a slightly different game, and it feels like Pommer meshes better with Jack + Skinner. I've never felt like Sam fit well with Jack. After seeing 3 games with Skinner, I'm more convinced of that than ever.
