In Fantasy Football, I've always been told to avoid drafting players that skip training camp as injuries and slow starts are more prevalent.

Can't imagine it doesn't transcend to hockey.

Might be an excuse, but may also be valid. No way to tell, but there's still hope. He's starting to move his feet and attack again. He is absolutely a dud if he's standing still. Hope springs eternal and all that.

- RhinoFan

That's not a good strategy. The first few weeks of the season are pretty much irrelevant. It's how they finish the season. In fact because most people think like that you can get guys later than normal and cash in. The goal is to win the last 3 weeks, not the first 3.

I know your being hopeful, but pommer has outplayed sam all year. Sam was invisible until he scored last night. Someone even referred to him as "kasper" last night.

Just a few seconds before sam scored, I told my wife he was due.
Liked his effort in front on the goal, I think he just took a puck to the Chest in front of the net. Gritty effort.

Hopefully this ignites him, but maybe try him with Mitts?

Sam sets up nice on the pp, to the left of the goalie (kinda behind the net) another good spot for his quick passes.

- Boss34

Maybe invisible, but it's still the best start to a season in his career.

Just wait until Dahlin starts playing 20+ min regularly
- sbroads24

And to be playing both sides already, he had a couple shifts on the left side with Risto last night. Kid is unreal.

Who doesn’t get that?
- sbroads24

Plenty

Almost everyone on here had either Sheary or Skinner on Jack’s LW and Sam on his RW when they were making line-ups
No one had Mitts on line3
Etc, etc, etc

It was even more prevalent last year
Remember everyone freaking out when Girgs started in the top6 on O’Reilly’s wing & Sam was 3C?
It ended up being well deserved
But it was still the thought of spreading out the scoring talent,
just didn’t work in that instance
Let’s face it though...
NOTHING “worked” last year

This year when Pominville was put on the top line with Jack...
plenty complained again

I wasn’t one of them though
So idk why u came at me with that comment?
I’ve always been a Pommer fan

IN FACT,
I was the first (and said it multiple times) on these boards to suggest that we could/should take Pommer off Minny’s hands (to help them with the Cap) so that we could get one of their defensemen at a cheaper price

It was more directed at the poop you gave me for pointing out Pommer’s very good p/60 stats in Minny, and saying he’s no longer a top winger.

But I’m not going 12 rounds on that one.

I thought you were directing the line # comments at me

Feels good to be a Sabres fan again. Felt kind of dirty over the past few years, particularly the "McEichel" tank year when most of us were cheering for Arizona to beat the Sabres at home in late March. It sure feels weird to think that your team has a chance to actually come back and win a game that they are behind in.
- SabreWest

I hated that, Weber was righteously pissed off. It's one thing to be relieved, another thing entirely to cheer for it.

At this rate, I'll be eating Crow for Thanksgiving...

This team actually could potentially finish in the top half of the league if they keep improving.(I thought 26-21st).

The usual Lackluster Slagwarts seem to be jelling into an actual team...(I'm looking at you 28,22,23,19)

Anyone got a good Crow recipe?

- notalent

What's a slagwart? Sounds like some Harry Potter thing.

Bc pts/60 is the dumbest freaking stat there is
Someone posted the leaders in that stat for the Sabres last week & Sobatka (with his ONE point) was ahead of Eichel

But that doesn’t mean i hate/dislike Pommer

Just more of your false inferences about my comments

Pommer isn’t a “top” winger though
He had a hot start last year too & then dropped off
The likelihood this lasts all season is extremely slim
But while it’s working...
there’s certainly no harm in keeping him up there

When was the last time we made a trade, gave up very little, and had it pay off in dividends like it is (so far) with Skinner and Sheary?

So you are interpreting that stat as trying to say Sobotka > Eichel?

It’s also an incredibly small sample size.

Pommers were good over entire seasons.

All P/60 does is tell you how well someone scores relative to the role they play.
It’s really easy to see how useful it is

I'm not really a fan of /60 stats, but he was also still playing 17 minutes a game in Minnesota. It's not like he's some 3rd/4th line scrub that plays 8-12 minutes and gets lucky a couple of times.

On a somewhat similar note, E-Rod(not a scrub) had 3 less 5v5 points than ROR last year with 650! less minutes. That's burtal.

It’s a good way to compare guys in different roles.

Pommel didn’t get top PP time last few years in Minny but was still right with their top guys in 5 on 5 scoring

Honestly, I didn't even notice Sam until shortly before his goal yesterday. I was at a friends house watching and said to him during the 2nd intermission that I hadn't noticed him.

Glad he finally got one, but I must say I wasn't impressed with his play through 2 periods.

- HonkFortheGoose

Totally agree, but I really want to like sam. It's just difficult considering his effort/ production.

I know he's on pace for 60 points, but also 8 goals. After leading the team last year in goals (tied)

I'm trying to remain positive

I'm trying to find it, what my friend sent, but I believe the figure it stated was that players that skipped training camp had a 4x higher likelihood of suffering a serious injury during the year. It isn't just the slow start, that just adds to the insult.

He’s on pace for 50, and he hasn’t been good this year.

Hopefully it’s just a slow start

How many guys hold out though? And they're usually skill guys who are more prone to injury too. I don't know if it's anything more than simple correlation.

That's where the eye-test comes in. The people who say he's one of the best players in the NHL are not watching the games.

Www
Interesting how four GM's all wet the pants for him though.
I think the guy ix sufferingfrom back issues still.
His 1st season with Sabres, he was aewsome.
Since then, ithas been downhill.

Statistically speaking

With points.

Not goals

And sam starts slow always. He is getting outplayed by:

Eichel
Pommer
Skinner
Sheary
Sobotka
Mitts
Erod
Girgs
Larsson
Berglund
Ellie

He has tage beat in my opinion

Probably.

Foligno/Ennis for Scandella and Pommer is our best recent trade and nowhere near that fleecing.

I haven't seen any games this year, but he definitely was last year; as someone with chronic back problems it's easy to spot.

Not really, his career high is 2 goals through 10 games(last year), all the other years it's been 1.

Edit: This is the longest it's taken him to score though.
