Here’s a fun example:

Tyler Myers has been a bad PP player for a majority of his career.

Last year Maurice put him up top where his job was to literally feed Ehlers on the wall and let Ehlers make plays. All the sudden Myers was one of the better PP d men last year.

PP points just aren’t a great measure of talent

Ok
Like i said though,
you can’t ALWAYS discount the secondary assist unless u actually see the play

Case in point: the Eichel backhand, no-look secondary assist that set Pominville and Skinner on a 2-on-1 and led to the Skinner goal

My point is that if he had 7 or 8 primary assists already, id agree he’s playing incredibly well. He’s still playing well, but I would expect him not to lead the league in secondary assists when the year ends

That’s also 5 on 5. Not PP

Not even when we have their 1st round pick?

I know we would be 10-0 if he was still here

- sabrerob

Not really, no. We will get a first from them one way or another. It’s out of our control. I really don’t care about one guys stats or in what fashion he produces them.

Exactly

And just like a shot taken deflects off a guy’s butt (or whatever) in front of the net and gets tapped in

Sure, credit the guy who went to the front of the net
But it’s not like the primary assist he got showed any indication of his “talent”
That guy could just have easily been Larsson as it could be someone like Skinner

I do understand that generally primary assists are a better indicator
I just don’t discount secondary assists as being such a random accident
I don’t think that’s usually the case
Although, it obviously SOMETIMES is

But kane was "the best player on the sabres" last year.
He was a BUM

Have you looked at pommers career stats?
Very impressive

- Boss34

Pommer stinks, you people are just bitter when it comes to Kane. Pommer should have better numbers, he's been in the league how many years compared to Kane, Weak ass argument.

Dude, i get your point
Generally speaking you’re totally correct

But it’s impossible to say what you’re saying without seeing the plays
Especially in such a small sample size

Ok, well I do watch the Sharks & Blues and want the best we can get. I’d hope their both next year unprotected.

There's also the infamous "Crosby secondary assist" in Pittsburgh. Good players tend to get gifted some "generous" secondary assists

I was pretty surprised when Doughty extended there

Feel like it was easy to see they were heading in the wrong direction

Kings should start selling off their Vets after this season

To me .. Assists just mean you were lucky enough to touch the puck before another player managed to get the puck in the net .

players with 30 assists mean nothing if they have a 50 goal scorer on the team.
goal scorers will score regardless of who feeds them the puck. Bet of the 30 a , that 10 really was because of the assisted player

Skinner was my #1 offseason want.

I’ll be super bummed out if he doesn’t re-sign here

Do you want him for 8 years?
It would be sweet to trade him away for another first round pick at the deadline (if we are far from the playoff race) and then sign him in free agency anyways.
