There's nothing to hate. Why hate?
Other than Laffs fans and people who debate using advanced stats, what's there to hate? |

I hate Doc and Pierre. Hands down. Painful to listen. I have to put them on mute sometimes. The crosby and malkin love affair. - bmoreflyer
Yeah they should put Doc out to pasture the same way Canada did to Bob Cole (which was frank'd up IMO). |

Stole the words from my mouth.. I hate the NBC coverage, especially when Emrick is calling games. He can't even stay focused and just call the play. It's bad when Hughson is better. |

I dont hate any player or team. I have teams I consider to be rivals but hate is not a good thing. Hate leads to all the bullpoop the league is trying to avoid. Hate leads to sticks being swung at people's heads ect. The league doesnt need hate, - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Good point and I agree. I think we should use a different word than hate than essentially means the same thing, something like dislike or despise. Hate is bad! Seriously I agree that word should not be used. |

No he's not right. There are tons of teams/ players I hate.
Some teams have been so bad/irrelevant for so long. Teams like Buffalo, Montreal, NY Islanders, Carolina, Vancouver, Phoenix... have been bottom feeders for a while. You can say that Carolina and Buffalo have a bright future but is there anyone that can say Vancouver and Montreal aren't going to suck for the foreseeable future? I hate teams that are bad because they are bad for the public image of the league especially when they have sucked for so long. |

If I started hating teams in October, I'd be strung out by May and June.
Same as last year for me ... as long as the Leafs or Golden Knights don't win the cup, I don't care anymore. Thanks CAPS |

Brad Marchand and Tom Wilson are about the only guys close to infamy level in the NHL at this time. Growing up, Dale Hunter was probably the cheapest SOB I ever saw play. Claude Lemieux at #2. Billy Smith and his slashes across the calves of opposing forwards in his crease always made me wince. Rob Ray gets an honorable mention, only because he would fight anybody. Lemieux was the worst because he would just turtle. Oh, forgot about McCarty, and Tucker, they were a douchecanoes. |

I think it has less to do with hating and more about why the players play the game. I know it had to happen but the NHL became serious business in the Bettman era, in doing so it took the game from the players hearts and put it in the wallets. 72 Russia series arguably the best hockey ever played, the players paid their own expenses but did for the love of the game. That's lost. Its evident with holdouts, contract terms, and worst of all the greed. Why do you think Nylander is holding out, its greed because the 36 mil over 6 years is not enough, its 48 or he doesn't play. Be grateful you have an opportunity to play and make lots of money do it not spiteful that someone got more than you. That's the hate I have, its appalling. |

I think the guy who is easy to hate on in today's NHL is Brad Marchand because he makes terrible decisions and does terrible things to other players and gets away with it.
I think on a base level people who are casual fans don't understand what has happened to sports either. Every casual fan I talk to is expecting that I hate this team or some player and they get thrown off that I like players in every organization and that I know so much about them.
And it's true I really don't like just one team anymore I love the game.
I think there is not much hate anymore because fans know and have access to so much now and I wish that was happening in the real world. Because when there is an "unknown other" it's easy to hate.
Back when I wasn't able to see the Bruins, Blues, or the Sabers anytime I wanted, I hated them. These teams were always this force who would come to Maple Leaf Gardens or the ACC and dominate the Leafs.
I hated Brett Hull with a passion.
I hated Marty McSorley with a passion.
However, come playoff time all bets were off. Because the Leafs were so rarely in the Playoffs very long or at all, growing up. So I learned to love other teams and other players.
It started with the Red Wings of the 90s when they won all those cups. I especially loved and am still very fond of The Soviet line.
I even started to respect and really enjoy the Sabers in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Then Nashville became my playoff team and I lived and died with them.
Shortly after this, Hockeybuzz showed up in my life and it was final. I loved everything about hockey and I wanted to know as much as I could.
At the same time, sports media caught up with Hockeybuzz, and social media, and these players became people and their lives became very public. For better or for worse.
Throughout the leauge I believe there's a lot of protection that goes on off the ice that doesn't allow for hate, which is a double edged sword.
For example when criminal behavior is covered up or when a persons sexual identity or what have you is accepted by their team.
PR people do not like their players being hated or seen doing something unfavorable. It's not good for profit.
I think that's where we are today.
Anyway,
This is a bit ranty but those are my experiences and perspectives. Thanks Ek. - Tom Dusome
I Brad Marchand Grittiest, talent little man in the game |

Oh boo hoo.
Hockey still has the most 'hate' of any of the big 4 sports.
Baseball players on opposing teams chat and even (frank)ing high 5 each other during playoff games. When a guy hits a single and is standing on 1st base, it's like he and the first basement are childhood friends. Baseball fans of different teams hang out and joke around together in the stands for god sakes. How often do you see that in hockey?
Football is a rough and tumble sport for sure, but these guys help each other up for god sakes? Where is the hate in that? (How many times do you see a hockey player help up another guy after a scrum in front of the net? Never....) Even the shoving matches in football are lame as hell.
Basketball.... I actually think they may have more 'hate' than the other two sports, but let's face it... the league is full of divers and whiners. I guess that's just the way the sport is at the end of the day.
Hockey may be getting a bit softer, but I think that's because the players actually have to be able to 'play' now. Half the guys we used to hate 15 years ago, shouldn't have even been in the AHL. Torts can female dog and moan all he wants, but once they took away the hooking and holding, it eliminated most of the guys who played on the edge.
Let's face it, all professional sports have gotten a bit softer, but hockey is still by far the hardest with the most amount of 'hate'. |

I'm beginning to hate this pansy league, which plays by college rules and has removed good old fashioned checks and brawls. I like some meanness on the ice. I loved the Chris Prongers and Scott Stevens of the old time NHL, which would quickly make work of the Marchands and his ilk. |

I agree with every thing on here! I can't tell you how bored I've become with this sport in the past 3-4 years. My dad and I talk about it all the time. I'd pay good money to see hockwy reverse it's culture! As a die hard fan.. even I am losing interest.. sad! |

I HATE:
1. Anything and Everything NY Rangers and that Crap Hole MSG
2. All the gingers on the Flyers
3. Play by play announcers who scream at the top of their lungs "GOAL"!!!! (Marc Moeser (sp?) I'm talking to you)
4. Arrogant Leaf fans
5. People who think you don't have a viable franchise because you don't sell out every game
6. Replay on offsides calls
7. Lack of offer sheets on RFA's
8. People who boo Gary Bettman
9. Gritty
10. I HATE that I really don't hate anyone......it's more "strong dislike"
EDIT: how could I forget the announcers? A. Can't stand Pierre McGuire B. Any commentator at ice level between the benches and C. ALL female hockey announcers - I love woman and am OK with them doing any job they like but I prefer to hear a masculine voice during a male sporting event |

I hate with a passion, the Rangers. Always have, always will. Why? They are the Rangers, if they are playing in a game it must be about them. If a player is traded to the Rangers he is suddenly one of the best at his position.
Players...I used to despise Matthew Barnaby. I got great pleasure watching Luke Richardson, amongst others, pound him. In the current NHL, Brian Marchant. I have no respect for him at all. He has no respect for the other players in the league and has shown it on numerous occasions.
- wbon22Torts is right...there is no hate...it is too much like a beer league at times.[/quote ]
