Malkin is just as good, if not better than Crosby, if he was Canadian, they'd already have his plaque made for the HHOF. - LeftCoaster

I'd report him too. He still thinks that Hextall is a good GM. Teams getting worse and prospects are now showing they can't cut it. |

Ryan Wilson...Pens blogger
"The Canucks as a team might not be very good. They do have the previously mentioned Boeser as well as Elias Pettersson. Those two are really good players who are going to be fun to watch for a long time. They are so young that maybe they’ll still be good by the time Jim Benning is fired." |

They've had five drafts to draft better players, if the GM would have utilized the draft more, outside of the first round, maybe we'd be starting to see more players emerge like Boeser and Petterson?
This is where my comparison's between Hextall and Benning come into play. I always say Hexy is so much greater at utilizing the draft than Benning. Because Hextall was able to grab so many more good 1-2-3 round picks the likelyhood that they'll see a few extra good players emerge is highly probable in the next two or three years. - LeftCoaster
Flyers got beat 6-1 today by bottom feeders . Bad example |

It seems really unfair the Oilers get Gretzky, Messier and McDavid while the Penguins get Lemieux, Malkin and then Crosby....or is it just me? That's ten Stanley Cups for those teams combined. Has anyone in post 67 expansion had such luck? Are the Canucks truly cursed?

Their team right now has nothing to do with my Hextall vs Benning comparison's if you'd bother to understand them.
Hextall inherited Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Gostisbehere, Couturier, Hagg and Laughton, the majority of their good players. When I speak about him I always talk about the draft and how he refused to do what Benning did which is trade away the future for the present. He's slowly built a good pile of prospects while having a competitive team.
Again...my Hexy vs Benning comparisons have nothing to do with the present but rather building for the future by acquiring picks and drafting well. Hextall's workings won't be visible until four years from now when kids start to emerge from development.
From the 2014 and 2015 drafts he has Sanheim, Lindblom, Konecny, Provorov & Vorobyov as regulars this year. |

I'll give you this though, Hextall has been poopty at what he's tried in terms of surrounding the players he inherited. His UFA signings have been |

Maybe I will bother trying to understand when Flyers become significant . Right now I see an old guy getting up on a pulpit screaming my Ford Pinto is better than your Chevy Corvair.

Having it all work out as I envision it, is another story completely, it's just how I would have preferred to see Benning do it. I want the same things everyone else wants, for the Canucks to build a Championship team. |

The problem is there is no real formula to building a SCF team or 31 GMs would be using it. Look at Vegas , they didn't have any formula and almost won it last year.

The Caps had 6 players they drafted in 14 years on the SC winning team . 9 or 10 of the 14 first round picks were no longer with them.
14 years ago is when they Drafted OV. |

The winners do it multiple ways, but the one constant is the drafting on their core players. I'm not getting into it, but as you know, I just feel strongly that trading McCann and 2nd round picks for Gudbranson and Sutter was a mistake in the building process.
Now McCann is no world-beater but imo he's better than Gaudette, who we all talk well about. Including me. |

Gaudette has his best game ever as a Canuck and Green sits him down. Archiebald scores a goal and gets sent down . Yet Eriksson who has been (frank)en useless all year hasn't missed a shift.
This is going to be a very long rebuild. Buckle up.
McCann didn't want to be here right from the draft. Arrogant wiener , but then you have guys like Tramkin that want out. It is not good when players don't want to be here. They see poop players gifted time and they sit at the end of the bench for missing a coverage. |

They won because they drafted Ovechkin, Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Holtby, Wilson, Vrana, Orlov, Carlson, surrounded them with a good mix of players and they were well coached. I'm sure luck and health played a part as well. |

That signing is handcuffing the coach because they paid him so much they (GM/coach) are trying desperately to get something out of him. It's unfortunate. |

How can you say they didn’t have a formula? They spend more on scouting than any other team. They did their homework and it paid off. |

They've been a great team for a dozen years, great drafting will do that for you. I'd take that! Canucks were good for five years from drafting, hopefully happens again
Capitals have won the highly coveted Presidents Trophy three times in the past ten years |

If I remember correctly they couldn't get passed the first round most times. They were known as team of chokers.
They have won one cup in 44 years and it took 14 years of drafting starting with OV. That sounds more like a broken clock being right twice a day formula over drafting and patience. They did trade Foresberg also. |
