Let this star shed some light for you. What happened in Pittsburgh was terrible and I hate that there is such hatred in the hearts of some people that they would carry out something like that. I feel terrible for the families and friends of the victims and I feel empathy for the utter horror and anger that they must be feeling. But you know what, I felt that way before you brought it here to this hockey message board and I'm sure everyone else here that has a heart felt that way too. In other words there's no point in bringing that up here on this hockey message board because all of us that are capable of empathy already felt empathy and the few who don't have empathy for the victims of hate crimes aren't all of a sudden have a change of heart because of your post on this message board. Your posting this stuff accomplishes nothing other than disrespecting the rest of us who come to this board to escape the ugliness of real life and to a more important point your posts disrespects us by presuming we need you to be our conscience. - EbonyRaptor
Stop wasting your time with him. He's been on this BS since this past weekend this is not the forum to have these types of discussions. Now him making personal attacks against everyone here calling them IGNORANT is not necessary and uncalled for. It just shows how IGNORANT he is. |

Barring a spate of injuries that they can't recover from, I expect the Hawks will stay in the playoff race because 5 teams could make it from the Central.

Vastly outplayed and empty seats would follow if you move Keith or Crawford. But if you covet s first round choice, there should be a market for a proven Cup winning Crawford. I wonder if the emboldened Nashville GM trusts Rhinne or feels another playoff meltdown. My idea would be to package Crawford plus someone along the line you mentioned for a first round pick. I would intend to then move two #1"s for an early #1. This is where you find future core pieces.
Of course we are much less if either Crawford or Keith left. Eventually their replacements draw from the impressive dmen Stan drafted. Or the other route, the way I could possibly see happening because you have to decide if Dellia is a future Blackhawk. Won't even ponder Forsberg future.
Crawford is not exactly endeared as the prodical son returned, according to some reports or conjecture about how Rocky feels about Crawford's adventures. It could be water under the table....past history which better not happen again. My bet is that it won't.
Yet you could draft either one or two top forwards if you play your cards right. I say this team needs a line featuring a top six gritty power forward whom can skate and has descent scoring ability.
I would rather try to grow with Dellia and this big forward than moving Keith before a youngster can assume his [Keith] job. Even declining a bit Keith is needed here. The defensemen would slot badly and the team's blueline would be a real ad entire without Keith.[url] |

Any trade involving Rutta should be looked at as a contract dump. Whatever is received back is a bonus. The contract StanBo gave him last year after poor play made absolutely no sense.

No player is irreplaceable or indispensable but taking a chance on somebody like Dellia is Russian Roulette. No goaltending in the NHL is the kiss of death - see the Florida Panthers, Philly Flyers, Blues and last year's Hawks and Canadiens - reasonably good rosters (except for the Habs) but can't/don't win in the regular season and go absolutely nowhere in playoffs. |

That's a formula that rarely works in hockey or any other sport. - RickJ
Seems to be ample evidence it can work in baseball. Astros, Cubs, Yankees to a degree sold stuff off to acquire young talent, White Sox are on that path but time will tell how effective it is. I am sure there are others.
I would agree in hockey tanking is no guarantee of improvement unless there is a Lemieux, McDavid coming out the following year. There is no question Pittsburgh tanked the year before Lemieux came out to get him and they have 2 Cups as a result.
You can sort of see how football is trending more toward deadline deals for future draft picks as well. Young athletes in general are more ready to contribute right away now, and in leagues with a salary cap, the draft is the only way to get cheap talent. But the way teams can rebound in football from one draft and a good year in free agency is pretty unique to the major sports.
Basketball is a different animal, and well, I really don't care about basketball anyway. |

100% agreed ! Saad should have felt that inside shoulder pressure and also on his backhand and curl away from it on his forehand buying more time for Gus to drop down in the high slot just off to the left and Kane to either change (Toews did) or Kane to open up via drop pass/cycle or rotate back up. This would have gotten CM and Draisaital more tired as they have been out the entire time. - D2D
No doubt that Saad should have backed off and kept possession, exactly as you suggest.

No Rutta is not Morgan Reilly. Reilly came into a league as a 19 year old and and off years happen. Always has had the tools.
Rutta is an older player with meh mobility who hasn't adjusted well to the size of the rink and speed of the game on NA ice.
Also, the Hawks pro scouting has a pretty atrocious history the last few years. They've drafted well, actually. But in terms of evaluating guys in the AHL or NHL. Bad bad bad. |

Actually the guys responsible for the drafting are different guys than the pro scouting guys that are responsible for evaluating players in the NHL. The GM would use their info to make trades, sign free agents, etc. |

When it comes to European free agents, and Panarin being the amazing outlier, can someone please explain why they don't pan out? I've read articles about Kempny, Rutta, Nillson, and maybe 1 more player. Basically it was a bidding war with other teams and the hawks won these guys and signed them. Nillson might be too soon to call, but these guys were highly touted Euro free agents, and the switch to NA ice seems quick, but what is the problem? Is it Q, is it the system, is it the team around them, is it the free agents, is it just hype? I just want to know. Probably a little of everything. |

Rutta is already older and has been a Hawk a while now. Pretty sure that what you see, under Ulf’s “System”, for Rutta is what you are going to get. Maybe a change of scenery will help him but that is debatable. Kempny actually had the game to excell with the Hawks but somehow found the doghouse.
Gus is in a similar boat. At some point the team must give up as Gus seems a total uni-dimensional player who cannot or refuses to play defence. What a concept - D-Men who actually know how to play D-Fence. |

Those players you mention not getting much in return as for rebuilding the hawks back into a contender and long term success. Keith would only trade if it was a offer cannot refuse. Someone mention be a mentor and showing the young d how play the position that has a lot of value has a on ice coach but say Toronto calls are willing to give a up a 1st and an high value prospect considering the pressure to make the Stanley cup finals and win I would do the deal. I see the hawks as a .500 team unless bowman and company can fill a couple key holes another center bottom six scoring and top 6 forward most likely not getting a top 4 d man without giving up dcat or smaltz. Lets see how forsling and murphy look when they come back.
dcat toews ?
saad AA kane
fortin Kahun smaltz
Johnson/kruger kampf hayden
x martinsin
Keith Joki
Gus seabrook
Forsling Murphy
x Manning
Crow
Ward
IMO missing legit 2nd line center and top 6 winger with physical play speed and skill

I saw that - very interesting. I was happy to see the Hawks going with a 1-3-1 PP with only one d-man to start the season and then it was back to the same ole same ole with Keith's popgun shot not threatening anyone. The article focused in on a few things and one of them was the efficiency of 2D3F versus 1D4F formats with the 1D4F format clearly better. |

Yes to both of these statements.
Now throw in:
Any top four D man and a top six F with talent starts the discussion at least at $6MM per year (and that number grows along with the cap growth).
As things stand now, 62.5% of the Hawks' cap is devoted to seven players (six of which have NMCs and/or NTCs - requiring consent of the player to move them), with only Kane and CC not declining in their level of play.
Schmaltz, Kampf and Johnson all are RFAs next year.
The year after, Kahun, ADB, Fortin and Hayden are all RFAs.
