To be completely clear, I don't think the Flyers have a single defenseman who is capable of being a dominant player on the PK. In years past when the Flyers had a key PK in a key part of the game, they could send out Timonen and Pronger as a pair against a team's top PP unit in a D zone start. The Flyers don't have that.

With that being said, I think the players they do have are capable of being much better on the PK then they are but thinking and doing aren't the same thing obviously.

I went back and reviewed every single PP goal scored against the Flyers and in every one, there was a simple fundamental flaw that did them in. Sometimes you just have to give the opposition credit for skill and execution and goals are scored against you on the PK even if you do it right. I don't find that to be the case with the Flyers this season.

For example, one PP goal was scored against the Flyers in the NJ game. A veteran forward on the Flyers was responsible for the weak side back door and cross ice seam. That player, instead of having his stick in the passing lane, had his stick facing center ice out of the passing lane. That created a seam for a cross ice pass and a one time goal.

Now let's look at the 3 criteria so to speak.

Do I believe that player is capable of executing having his stick in the passing lane? I do think he is.
Do I think the Flyers PK scheme by design calls for sticks in the passing lanes? I do think it does.
Do I think the coaches have coached that sticks should be in the passing lane? I think they have and honestly, NHL coaches shouldn't have to waste time coaching a simple fundamental such as that. This is just one example.

Could you imagine if a young player pulled something like that?

Like I plainly said, I don't think it's likely but anything can happen. Laine getting traded for a fair return would hardly be the strangest thing to happen in the league.
- hereticpride

Laine sounds like a good fit for the Flyers because the Flyers haven't had a pure shooter since Carter, plus he sucks defensively so he will fit in well.

If he can pot 44, I'll deal with it.

What do you think, Rubtsov and a 2nd?

I doubt Winnipeg eats that much. If I am the Jets I want Konecny and Sanheim at least.

Wow, you are very thorough! I feel like you summed up the Flyers PK problem in the first sentence. There is no doubt you studied their power play more than I have or ever will. I just think the evidence points to these players not being good enough to put together a decent pk on any kind of consistent basis. You can say the players have the capability all you want, but if they don’t perform they are not good enough.

I can't refute that. They're at something like 67% and bleeding PP goals against. I'm just looking at what I think the causes are. Maybe another coach can get them to respond because these coaches sure can't. Nobody would claim that Lappariere was unjustly fired if it happened. It's results oriented. Something has to change and you can't fire all the players.

Maybe Gudas should be traded. Took out Coots in Playoffs, now Provorov. Im thinking he's a double agent for the Pens.

A BSH writer is calling for the firing of Dave Hakstol
- Just5

I have so sympathy for Hakstol, I think the badness feeds both ways at the moment.

I see no reason to let this play out if we are .500 or less in the next few games.

UNLESS we DO NOT want to be competitive.

And want to push all our chips in for Jack Hughes.

But that would mean we were attempting something that rhymes with Trocess.

And have our Center slot solidified for as long as we can keep Patrick Coutourier and JHughes signed **insert Homer ceiling waffle 'God' drool.

So do I, an I am not trolling but the lack of any decisive change makes me wonder sometimes.

If they aren't serious, why not is my point. Not popular, but I'd rather see ALL future guys lose than this mixture.

I know it's early, but it just makes me think it's STILL October if this goes for the worse.
