If Q is such an elite coach master mind then why does everyone consistently say he has a horrible hand? Great coaches can make any team play well. This team has not played well. Not defending bowman's moves, but even when the hawks were dominate it wasn't coaching that won it. Q needs to adjust the system because this is not the same team as the cup runs. They need a blue collar style hockey dump and chase everyone crashes the net. Simple hockey.

For those who say we have lack of talent look at pittsburgh garbage defense, but plays as a team and everyone buys into the system. The hawks have zero puck support or shot blocks. That is not talent that is coaching. Hawks execution in the game is due to coaching. The consistent miscues is because of coaching. Players running into each other passes not on the tape is all coming down to coaching.

Team's execution on the powerplay is bad passing and argue talent all ya want. Hawks consistently preached how can tthey not score with such a talented group. Um well coaching decides what the players do soooooo

Q: "We still were in good shape (after two periods). Forty minutes, you’ll take, 40 minutes in Vancouver, you can argue about Edmonton. Putting it all together, playing the right way, good habits (in)critical times — that’s what we’ve got to improve."

'Playing the right way, good habits'.. you would think that this stuff could be ironed out with practice and more practice. Does the team's 'country club atmosphere' extend to practices as well? If so, it needs to have stopped at least 2 years ago. There are too many younger and newer players on the team that need the reps to play 'Q's way' and have said good habits. Q's way has worked, as evident by 3 SC wins, however, you can't play it right if you don't know it.. and you can't know it if you don't practice it.

I can't help but think that this is why most of the players the Hawks have traded for in the past, mid-season, have looked like poop. I also can't help but think this is one of the reasons why the hawks look more like a pee-wee team than a pro team.

I always wonder how much he is able to articulate what he means by "playing the right way" to the new and younger guys. That's wide open to interpretation. When the beats ask him detailed questions about specific issues, he's not always able to get deeper than his mantras.

Having been to a few open practices in the past couple of years, they do not seem particularly strenuous or focused on practicing specific schemes or skills. They last about 40 min. Laps around rink, run the lines, run PP, but seems to be the same thing every practice. Maybe they do things differently when closed door. Some players stay and do their own thing - typically, it's Kane working on shooting with the younger guys or passing with his line mates, etc. That said, I'm no hockey expert and not a player, so I'm likely missing something.

Wanna hear jokers like Oldruffman...

this team is great, Q is just a bad coach, we have so much great talent Stan gave us why have they not gien us the CUp today?

- kwolf68

No need to wait pal ,just go back a few pages /Never said they were great ,but maybe if the coaching staff put in some effort and tried to work with the GM they could be better .Instead Q just rolls out his stale coaching routine ,and his team has tuned him out .. Q expire date is way past due ...

Its both

It’s the coaching

And it’s a lack of talent/bad roster

Hawks got outshot 41-15...They may be one of the worst teams in hockey.
- kwolf68

Not may be, they are.

Good news though IMO

Great chance at drafting somewhere in the top 5 and getting a legit top end talent to go towards the rebuild.

The worse we are at this point, the better it is for the future of our organization. No more of this mediocre just missing out on the playoffs stuck in no mans land BS. We need to SUCK, like legitimately SUCK, in order to turn things around in the long run.

I was really hoping the Blackhawks could get 4 points out of Western Canada.
- matt_ahrens

They did:

Point 1: we are not good 5 on 5
Point 2: we are not good 5 on 4
Point 3: we are not good 4 on 5
Point 4: we do not have good coaching

Bonus point: we do not have good management.

Very well said. Up and down and inconsistent play from your team often from shift to shift, period to period and game to game is on the coach. There are plenty of good moments or periods of time the team plays well, then it just falls apart.

This is why you pay a coach, to smooth out the game. Figure out what buttons to push. Clearly Q has mis labeled his buttons, as the input does not equal output.

For those whining about talent level, please. The hawks are not unlike many teams in the league. Those teams just play together more consistently for longer periods of time.

Someone asked earlier in thread about GMs and Coaches. Typically, and this now is not typically, a GM gets at least 1 coach fire and hire. Q has been here a decade. I am not against canning SB too, but I am just trying to be practical. Coaches go before GM's go.

I could say this, too.....dozens of people on this board alone are saying the same thing.

Thing is, you’re the only one in position to make this happen. Saying this don’t cut it....make it happen Q, or get the hell out of the way!

Bottom line is. .......Stan Bowman put this garbage together, hope he is gone by Thanksgiving. Problem is, Rocky is not a hands on owner where his Dad probably would already be on the phone looking for his next GM soon.
Enough of the coat of arms shield that Bowman has around him because of Daddy, he needs to go! ....Soon!

- wonthecup10

I don’t think so. The old man would be wandering aimlessly around the city looking for a phone booth where he could plop in his dime for the call. Would never find one. Can’t see the old man footing a cell phone bill!

Um. I think we are also seeing that this team is what we thought it was unless Kane and Toews are on pace for 160 points each.

Jokiharju has been a pleasant surprise and with Boqvist and Mitchell not far away those are good things. That group now though. Yikes.

The schedule has enough off days in November where if they made a coaching change they would at least have some practice time. December is a little nuts in terms of back to backs and 4 games in a week and would make that more difficult.

Saad looks a force so that's a plus? Lol. And Kane should be recovered enough to eat up the suspect goaltending on Carolina later in the week. fun times.

So tired of players' same lines over and over. What they should do but don't. Two years of the same stuff from Q with no follow-up. I cannot see any team now that I can confidently say we would go against without being the underdog in the game.

I am done. I have gone to following the flip side of the league standings.

The silver lining for me is that the core is not washed up. Last year I was afraid they might be. But tanking this year may be the best way forward, too many holes.

Question for the board - If the Refs are there to enforce the rules, why didn't they notify the bench that there was no onei in the box when DK was removed from the box? Could it be that they do not know the rules themselves?
- powerenforcer

They know the rule, but it's on the coach to have a man in the box. I've seen that situation happen about a dozen times. But the team is usually aware that they need to stop play asap.

Ya that’s insane incompetence from Refs, Hawks coaches, and guys working the clock and penalty box.

Decision to replace the man in the box when he has to leave is a strategy decision by the coach. Replace him and you are down two men - Keith and the player sitting for him. Think the hawks were waiting to put a man in the box at a stoppage around the 4:30 mark of the penalty....then they are only down two men for about 30 seconds.

Think it was just a brain fart where the coaches forgot about this and then were forced to play the man short longer than necessary. Total bonehead play.

Refs are not there to tell the hawks their strategy was stupid. Would say the refs were doing exactly what they were supposed to. It was the hawks coaches that were incompetent.

This season through the first 15 games: 6-6-3 (15 points). Last season through the first 15 games: 7-6-2 (16 points). This season through 15 games they've given up 56 goals. Last season through 15 games they game up 36 goals. That's 20 more goals given up than last season - 1.33 goals per game.

I'm thinking team defense is the problem. Gee, I wonder if Forsling and Murphy will completely transform the Hawks defense into a Cup contending defense? Yeah ... probably not.

I have one hope for this team - that Stan doesn't make things worse by trying to put lipstick on this pig.
