Panarin will walk for nothing, so the trade cost is reduced significantly... - EnzoD
If they are going to discount Panarin so much they would take Schmaltz for him, who probably would get scratched or play on their 4th line, why not just keep him for this year? Otherwise they are throwing the towel in for the playoffs this year. What message would that send to the rest of their team?
No way that's gonna happen. |

Remember this is the guy that fleeced us to get Panarin initially. He's no dummy.
He also bypassed Puljiarvi (sp?) to take Dubois in the draft, which no one thought was a good idea at the time. Now, Dubois is a legit skilled center, while Pulji struggles to stay in the NHL in Edmonton. |

Bouchard of the Edmonton Oilers was also reassigned to the OHL's London Knights this morning.
With less than 10 NHL games played (7), his contract will slide at the end of the season, preventing his entry-level contract from burning a year. - walleyeb1
There was some talk about Boqvist and Bouchard playing together in London, meaning one of them would have to play their off-side because they are both RD. Now that Bouchard is heading to London, the talk can continue. I was hoping Hunter would move Boqvist to LD to pair him with Bouchard so we get a feel for whether or not Boqvist can play either side which would be a good thing when he gets to the Hawks.

Trade Schmaltz for Panarin and call it a day. CBJ's have to realize they are going to lose Panarin to Unrestricted Free Agency at end of season. Getting a first rounder for Panarin instead of losing him outright, is a steal for CBJ. Then, if you are the Hawks, give the money you were going to give to Schmaltz....give it to Panarin and then some. Yeah...the risk is there that Panarin won't resign with the Hawks. And if he does not, we will have cap space to sign someone else that would be better than Schmaltz anyway. I know Schmaltz is the whipping boy right now, me included, but does anyone see him being a superstar? I roll the dice on this trade. Especially as this team starts losing playoff position. You move Saad up to line one with Cat and Toews. Reunite Panarin with Kane and AA. Fortin, Kahun and Sikura becomes the third line. Fourth line of Kampf/Kruger/Hayden. Get Murphy back and bring up Forsling to be the new third line d-men. Trade Ruuta. - onehundredlevel
I'm in agreement... but one more time........ GET RID OF QUENNEVILLE ASAP.
He has NO Answers for putrid PP that is desperately needed amongst "A Million Little Things".

Realistically, this is a .500ish bubble team. Better than the Rangers, Ducks, Kings, not nearly in the same league as the Lightening, Jets, Preds.
They have only 4 legit top 6 forwards (Kane, Toews, DCat, Saad)
They have only 3 top 4 D (Keith, Joki, Seabs)
Kahun is properly slotted as a strong 3rd line wing, he's not good enough for top 6
Schmaltz is still an incomplete, probably good enough for top 6, but he's not playing to what they think is his potential
Fortin, really fast, really bad hands
Gus, really good in his O zone (despite last night's gaffe) but he makes a half dozen bad D zone turn overs each night.
Rutta, just not good enough
Perhaps Murphy and Forsling help shore up the D, but then you still need a few more guys that can score. |

Anyone who thinks Schmaltz can be traded for Panarin, a top 10 scorer in all of the NHL, needs to seriously put down the crack pipe.
I know we are desparate to think of ways to improve our struggling team, but I think NHL18 would lock out your account if you even tried such a silly trade. - hereismike1
Okay NHL GM, since you're the expert, with average reading skills, how bout contributing to the discussion as to what it would take for the Hawks to acquire him back? |

Wait till he hits free agency and throw a wad of cash at him.
That's the only move that makes sense for the Hawks.
If someone wants to throw enough talent to Columbus so they don't sink their Cup hopes this year, let them. Then try to sign him as a UFA.
The Hawks are in no position organizationally to trade talent off of a talent poor roster to get a guy they could get for free in 8 months or so.
We aren't getting a guy like Panarin without giving up something substantial to get him in a trade. They are not going to dump him for our leftover parts (and we are a crappy probably non playoff team) and screw themselves in the playoffs this season.
So unless you want to start the discussion with Dcat and a pick or Joker, it simply is not realistic. |

CBJ acquired Panarin for a 30 point forward and an AHL goalie. Panarin for Schmaltz, by comparison, is a slam dunk. |

Yes and look who the GM was pulling that trigger.
Everyone acknowledges it was the worst trade made in some time. Even on the NHL Network they talk about how painful of a deal that was for the Hawks.
Why would we assume Columbus is dumb enough to do it in reverse? |

I'd say it's 50/50 Stan or Q and right now, how could you fault Q when he has to roll out failed draft pick after draft pick and a top heavy roster every night. Salary cap, drafting, building is the job of the GM not of the Head Coach.
Now does Q have some input? YES of course, but not to the extent that the roster looks this way. Kempny was on Q but at the same time, you cant look at players in other systems and say that is necessarily on Q. Head coaches have their systems and they make adjustments here and there. But sometimes players are unwilling to do things differently. Stan is solely responsible for what we see today. - nickmo2699
Actually, Stan’s drafting record is pretty good, but this year’s FA signings, not so much.
You can talk about some of the talent Q has to work with but there’s no reason Kunitz couldn’t be sitting for pretty much anyone. Also, Q has had and still has ample talent to work with on the PP...yet in all his time here even in their best year’s it’s been no better than middle of the pack. |

Fire the GM and head coach.
Look to trade Kane and Toews for as much cap relief and as many 1st round picks as possible.
Then also look into trading Crawford, Anisimov, Saad, Keith, Murphy, and even Seabrook if possible for more cap relief and draft picks.
Tank the rest of the season to draft high in the first round.
Build the future around Debrincat, Jokiharju, and all the incoming draft picks.

Even if your suggestion in the first line occurs, I doubt your next suggestion occurs even under new management, and I’d be surprised if any of the other Core players are traded (2, 7, 50). |

The PP problem seems to be scheme. 4-5 perimeter passes and a Keith shot wide, high or into shin pads. |

If they are a .500 ish team in the West they are not going to be anywhere near the bubble. As currently constructed this team doesn't make the playoffs this year, even with Forsling and Murphy coming back. They had both of them last year and didn't make the playoffs and they aren't going to be the saviors this season. Too many spare parts and holes for them to make a serious run. |

I wrote about it earlier, but Sharp and Mayers broke down the pp. The pkers respect shooters, but if you are on the perimeter, passing, looking for the perfect shot, then that is easy to defend against with an extended/poking stick. Because the hawks are setup in the 1-3-1 formation, when the steal happens, it's a clean breakaway for the defender. A huge problem is the Qb's. Joki? Get him out there. Seabs, not the best option, but a great shooter. Keith needs to be removed from it. Gus could be useful, but when the defending comes, he's not useful. Unit 1 needs to be setup with the best talent. The pp works so well for Edm, Tor, Nash, Win, TB because they load up heavy with all of their talent. Q divies up the talent for the 2 units aren't helping ... but our problems span beyond that, but it starts there. Very little standing in front of the net (not effectively) and the shots taken are weak and/or wide without the proper board battle recovery. Shoot on net, and mad scramble for the puck in the blue. |

If EK is reporting Florida is looking for Goalie help, why not see what Crow can bring back? Or, make it a blockbuster, include NS and DK for a center, Dman and picks? Stan should be in the talks....... |

Still not on the fire-Q/trade-everyone-away-bus yet.
Couple rough games? Sure. But everyone on this board is so quick to the extremes.
Hawks win and you guys are ecstatic. They lose and you're calling for everyone's jobs.

Tanner:
Vinny Hinostroza Has Been Excellent

IF there was one reason I was higher on the Coyotes this summer than most, it was because I felt that some of their under-the-radar pickups, specifically Vinny Hinostroza, Jordan Oesterle and Michael Grabner, were very underrated.
So far, I have been impressed with all three, but especially the blazing fast Hinostroza, who has been great.
In eleven games so far, he's got three goals and three assists. Not exactly mindblowing numbers, but still very good.
Still, if you disregard the opening four games of the season, he's got six points in seven games, so that is actually very good.
Hinostroza is averaging just over 12 minutes 5v5 per game, fifth of the team's forwards. He's also fifth in PP ice time. He has played mostly on a line with Brad Richardson and Michael Grabner, and it's been super effective.
Half of Hinostroza's points have come on the power play, but there is reason to be optimistic about his 5v5 scoring - his on ice shooting percentage (meaning the shooting percentage of everyone while he's on the ice) is under 4%, so he should have more points.
This is partly because he and Grabner have been a bit unlucky, but also because Brad Richardson is going to repress your ability to rack up points.
Hinostroza has been especially effective in driving possession with his speed. When he's on the ice, the Coyotes have controlled almost 60% of the play.
Basically, he's been awesome. I think Brad Richardson is a good player, but since he can't score he really shouldn't be playing higher than a fourth line.
Would Dylan Strome look good between Hinostroza and Grabner? I think that he would!
The 24 year old Hinostroza has proven to be a very astute pickup by GM John Chayka, and paired with Strome, a 30 goal season is not out of the question.

I liked Vinny and his engine, but he was kind of expendable. Glad he's doing well for himself in AZ.
Hawks have some really nice speedy guys in Fortin and Johnson.
Have to look forward, not backwards. |
