He is improving... he has looked pretty good the last couple games. The kid is hitting a ton of posts, i would imagine luck would have to turn soon.... - CoHo_to_B-Lo
i feel like he tries to do too much sometimes. i agree he has improved though |

not really...olofsson's a pp specialist at this point and needs to learn 5v5 play...pilut came over as an offensive d-man and needs to learn defense against north American pros...
they're doing well, but they may want to see how those two react to an individual or team slump - Michael Pachla
Yes. Yes. Yes. and more Yes. |

The line last night about each rookie being worth 5 losses stuck with me. They have a young lineup and I think they're very risk averse.
I think they'd prefer getting them up for a few games when injuries dictate it, before making any real moves. - Lunaion
that's a pretty good approach, imo |

I will accept this argument as a reasonable/acceptable position if it is true that Olofsson is merely a pp specialist at this point. That said, and without having seen any Rochester games, I find it hard to believe that he is looking lost 5v5 considering the numbers he is putting up. If there are glaring problems with his 5v5 game that I am unaware of, then so be it, but I have to question, what are those problems? He had great numbers last year overseas as well. |

Michael- another great blog - thank you
I know you are not a huge pommenville fan, but I'm surprised you haven't given him a little more credit .
Pommer is a living Sabres legend. Former captain.
He's doing exactly what other higher picked and younger guys are failing to do - score important goals
Also:
Couple things I've noticed about eichel growing into his captaincy
At the calgary game, I noticed him letting bowl u he wasn't happy with the play he made. Then tapped him on the butt with his stick as he skated to the bench. #Leadership
Jack knew last night immediately how important that pommer goal was to pommer. Immediately yelled to bogo to get the puck. #leadership
Jack has basically carried this team on on the ice in scoring. Superstar in the works

They did double shift him once last night.

Oh yeah, that one example someone always brings up.
And Vegas didnt win the cup?
Kinda like jeff Carter and pat laine have less points then 23.
Then laine has a hattrick
And carter has 1 goal 1 assist last night

Also have to consider that Phil currently shelters Skinner and Sheary. Calling up another LW that he's also reluctant to use defensively is a very tough ask. Girgs can only play so many minutes.... |

good points...but if Thompson goes down, they'll probably bring up a player like cj smith, who has 7 points (4+3) in 10 games and has already had a taste of the nhl - Michael Pachla
Good example of our newfound depth that was non-existent last year. He would have been first on my mind for a call-up last year and this year I wasn't even thinking of him. That said, I'd be happy to see this move. Just something that puts Thompson down and brings someone else deserving up would make me happy and would further drive the in team competition. It's a no brainer. |

If any of these guys were natural RW's, a move might have been made already.

I think GMB and phil break the season into 10 games segments.
We were 6-4
I agree with you, bring someone up that deserves it, but they felt good after the first 10 games |

The offense has to be "quicker" in their passing and especially their shooting. A wrist shot should not take the time one does to take a tee off shot in golf. |

Report was Bailey was playing poorly and was a healthy scratch at least once. Disappointing to put it mildly.
Is Nylander playing RW? I consider him a natural LW, but I won't pretend to watch the Amerks.
I just consider O'Regan a depth guy. |

forgot about Wilson...they can send Thompson down anyway and leave an open spot...won't hurt as they'll still have elie as the extra forward...as for hunwick, I think he has a neck injury that is (was?) pretty serious...can't see him here anytime soon - Michael Pachla
Maybe the powers that be like the progress certain lines/players in Rochacha are developing and don't want to break the cohesion? May seem like a mistake, but certainly a possibility. |

from joe Yerdon, lines at practice today:
Skinner-Eichel-Pominville
Sheary-Mittelstadt-Reinhart
Berglund-Larsson-Girgensons
Rodrigues-Sobotka-Okposo
McCabe-Ristolainen
Scandella-Dahlin
Beaulieu-Nelson
e-rod in for elie...Thompson still out...the big question, why is Thompson still in buffalo when he could have playing time in Rochester? - Michael Pachla
I have two guesses. The first would be that Rochester is playing really well as presently constructed, and the Sabres don't want to disrupt that situation by sending Thompson down and calling someone up (to possibly just sit in the press box).
The second would be that the staff might think there's specific issues with Thompson's game that they can work with him directly on while he remains with the big club.
I think the first guess is more likely than the second given GMJB's views on player development. |
