well put , if Hutton plays 20 mins all year and we keep upsetting the narrative then he is worth it

Bottom line: this team is far from deep on the blueline, it's laughable to suggest that we don't have room for any dman who's playing well with 20+ minutes per game.

And it's not wise to assume that every dman drafted in the first round will be a good top 4 dman.

We are discussing the years to come for the defence.

It might be time to step past the "worst that can happen at the draft" and go with a practical position when it comes to expectations of rookies.

I wonder if both Huttons and Gubranson's play has something to do with having better forwards up front. Hutton was better when he was forced into a larger role two years ago. Sucked last season playing 3rd pairing with 3rd/4th line forwards.

Team D & scoring threats upfront are the hallmarks of many a good team. Once we gets the Goals against down we will rise accordingly. Starts in goal & team play thru all 4 lines.

Depends on the definition of 'far' and while I agree for the most part I do think that Hughes/OJ are going to be a real good start once they are ready. How we build the D after that will be interesting.

You can sign Hutton for 1 year. If you’re discussing whether he’s worth signing longer term then that’s more of a futures discussion and too soon to judge right now.

And the fans here seem to have a weird notion that teams are only allowed having a max of 4 good dmen. With the Canucks travel schedule, you need 5 guys who can play long stretches effectively in the top 4.

I don't know of many teams have more then 4 good D. More rare then anything. Van barely has 2 of them right now.

Carolina might have the best D in the league now. (on paper)

Quinn Hughes with a goal.

Rathbone with a secondary assist to go along with his goal.

Edit: RATHBONE WITH ANOTHER ASSIST.

Hamhuis and Irwin, Bietto, Webber.

Kulikov, Morrow, Chairot, Poolman.

Doesn't inspire like De Haan, van Riemsdyk, Fleury.

Starts with how good the top 4 are & the TOI they get. After that it is depth & nothing more til they slot in for top 4 injuries.
